What's a safe towing weight for my CJ 7? Do I use the 85% rule of thumb?

Curb weight of Jeep + (filled with fuel +165 lbs for driver and cargo) + 85% = Max Safe towing capacity (as long as it doesn't exceed vehicle tow rating)?

If this is a good rule of thumb, do I use the Manufacturers recommendations based on a stock CJ7, with a GVW of 3,750 CJ 5 - 4,150 lbs, (CJ 8, or diesel models), or do I go by what mine really is after all of the modfications that I've made that have added a disgusting 1,600-2,000 lbs. ( 6.6L AMC 401 V8, Dana 60 front axle, Dana70 rear axle, 700R4 transmission, Atlas t-case, 38" tires, loaded swing out (spare, Hi Lift Jack, 2 Gerry Cans holding 40 ltrs of fuel), winch, front/rear bumpers, 6pt roll cage, tools, ect)

Man, did I ever add alot of weight to my Jeep! It's as overweight as I am! It's a boat anchor now.

Anyways, I want to pull my 10" trailer behind my CJ 7. I know that my engine can do it, my tranny was built for it, my axles and t-case can handle it. I've widened my wheelbase from stock to 64" and lengthened my wheelbase from 93.5" to 98.5".

I imagine that Police will go ny the sticker info for legalities and I honestly don't care about that, because I doubt that I'll ever get pulled over, so I want to focus on what is within safe limits.

I think that my tent trailer is under 2,600 lbs, but after adding the propane tank and loading it with food and camping gear... I'll just say that it's 2,600 lbs.

So, what's your opinion on this? Am I perfectly fine, or pushing it?

Thanks

Yeah so if I don't drive The Princess for a couple of days her battery dies and I need to boost her. When you turn off her engine the clock stays on, which is the only thing I can think of that would be draining it. (Yes I always make sure her headlights are off!) What's up with that and can I fix it?

I am thinking of adding something like this as an additional aid to keep a tab on the Jeep. I have seen others in market but ScanGauge seems to be having the best reviews. At US$170 it ismuch cheaper than a tradional gauge cluster (buying multiple gauges) and is accurate as it is reading information from the vehicle computer directly via the OBD port. The only limitation is that older vehicles won't be able to use this (OBD port is a requirement). The portablility is also an advantage. in addition is seems to be able to read engine codes as well, a major plus IMO.

Has anyone had any experience in the use of this multi gauge or any other like this?
