    5W40 and 5W50 ????

    Does anybody use 5W40 or 5W50 in vehicles?

    I am very interested on who uses this stuff and why?

    I am surprised that oil with that difference in weights even exists. I remeber my dad using 20w-50 in his MGB because it ran hot. unless you're running a diesel during extreme cold I can't see using it.

    5W40 is most common in VW diesels and some BMWs. The only vehicle I can think of at the moment that takes 5W50 is the new Shelby GT500s, but I'm sure there are others.

    Benz is moving to 5w50 from what I've heard. It's "energy conserving" BS again, although I will admit the 5w20 moves a LOT faster in the cold vs. 5w30 using the same pump. We have several high-end Benz's that come for service and they're all running 5w30 with no issues.
