    HO Head

    Hello,
I was talking to a friend of mine about putting a HO engine in my jeep to replace the normal 4L. He was saying that the only difference was the cylinder head, and i could get away with just swapping them. Was wondering if anyone knew if this was the case or if its an RE&RE on the whole engine.

    Thanks in advance

We'll need more info on the Jeep you have. YJ? Then you would be converting a 4.2L carb to a 4L HO Fuel injected and tons of stuff changes. I'll assume you mean the older Renix 87-90 Cherokee/Comanche 4L nonHO which would then also require more than just a cylinder head change to actually gain the performance from the HO heads.

You have the H.O. 4.0 engine. No differences between your head, and a Cherokee cylinder head. What chokes the performance on the YJ's is the exhaust pipe from the header to the cat. A great way to free up some flow is to get an exhaust shop to either cut and weld DOM bends into your stock downpipe, or get a whole new downpipe bent up at a speed shop.

If I was a Jeep, they'd have parted me out a LONG time ago.
