i know its been a while, but Great write up!

Im doing this as we speak, and I had been wondering how to re-enforce the places to be welded. The strip of 1" flat, is an awesome Idea, but as im Using 3" x 6" Rectangle Im going to need somthing else, something a little bigger.

Iv got mine cut to 5 foot 5", only .5 of an ince short of yours. So they should look pretty similar in the end.

Ever think of putting support to the frame rails?

Hey thanks Hotwire!!! I have actually have recently drawn up some frame tie in plans which would also tie in my roll cage that I have put in my xj. should be doing the project this winter. Post up some pics of your progress please. would love to see the 3" compared to my "2 tubing. As to your concern to needing heavier re-enforcment I dont think you would need much due to my experiences with my rockers. frame tie-ins are a good idea as why I am doing it soon. I have put my rockers through some abuse and have had no issues with them. driving down the road after i first installed them my jeep handled better do to less body flex around corners and if you get stuck you shouldnt have to worry about opening the rear hatch and not being able to shut it again

Well, the weight of these things are gonna add 200 lbs easy...

I have used 1.5" x 1.5" angle to do the rear support. Its welded in about 1/4" up the "floor wells". 1" Stiches every 4" or so top, and on the back side where the floor meets it. So its pretty strong. i only have one side done this far, the rail for the drivers side will be welded in tomorrow morning.

Both of the rock sliders/rocker panels are cut, beveled, and ends welded on. Hopfuly tomorrow afternoon, I will get them welded in and rocker guarded.

Im going to tie into my frame as well, soon after I get the stiffeners in. Im also going to tie them into the front and rear bumpers with some 1.5" 3/16" tube.

Well I have been at it on the drawing board and I think I am going to do a little mod to my rockers. Pretty muck make it look more like some of the after market style rails.

Just use some 1x2" and 2x2" square tubing.

Same design as what i am doing. I have my bolt on ones up for sale with the same design. Loved the look on my heep. Giver.

---------- Post added at 09:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:40 AM ----------

What i am doing is using 2 X2 tube and and the 1"spacers will only be 1" long giving you 3" sticking out. This should give you enough to protect your doors but not stick out too much. BTW Great write up.

    Thanks Ross

You should post up some pics when you have it done. or even some progress pics would be very much appreciated. Your plan sounds sweet. My rockers stick out about 1.5" do to the 2x6 so i need to keep the added rail pretty shallow

My bolt on ones could lift the entire side of my cherokee so these will for sure.

Oh ya it will take the load of the jeep on a jack. Not as good as jacking on the frame but pretty close. I plane to tie the rockers to the frame and include mounts to tie in my roll cage to the frame and rockers also.

The rockers are angled down the slightest bit. I never posted a pic up of the finished angle but its a lot less then one posted of the rocker jest sitting on the angle iron. I cut out the pinch seam because mine was rusted to shat. your better to just get rid of it and beef the area up

    Got mine Finally

I finally got mine fabricated and mocked up. Still have rusty floors to deal with at the same time. When i find the time. Got a couple hours in this weekend. Here are some pics. I swithed to 2" X 5" instead of the 6" so i could adjust them better as i didn't want them sticking out as far as they where going to.

Just completed mine... left them on a bit of an angle, figured that mud and crap would not pile up and slide off easyer.....thank you....a bit of work but finally done. now trying to put on the flares around them..

Definatelly looking foward to seeing how you tie them into the frame....
also did you close both ends down....I closed the front but left the back end open a bit for drainage.....

The rock rail idea looks nice, but I'm thinking that the rear bumper and swing arm are next....next year for rails.

I'll see if I can get some pictures up....
