Suggestion on a build up on a 97 TJ

    Hello everyone,

I'm just getting into the Off roading world, so I don't know much about specs on everything.

    I have 1997 Jeep TJ 2.5L 4 cylinder, its a 5 speed manual

I'm wanting to put in a 6 inch suspension lift with 35 inch tires, I was wondering if the 6 inch lift would be the biggest lift I can go before I would have to extend the drive shafts or if it would affect shifting gears smoothly.

Also what would be the best lift kit brand to go with for rock crawling and playing in the mud

    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

Even at 4.5" of suspension lift you will need to either drop the t-case or install a SYE kit and CV drive shaft. And you will also be modifying you t-case shifter linkage.

When you say a 6" lift, are you looking at a long arm lift kit?

not looking for a long arm lift and i was looking for something along the lines of a rough country 1997-06 Jeep TJ 6" X-series Suspension

heres the link for the lift - http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_tj_6x.html

rough countrys website recommends me getting slip yoke eliminator but i kinda dont know what that is for

SYE kit is supposed to eliminate driveline vibe when you lift a TJ more than around 4 inches.

I don't know if you have considered getting some tube fenders.. You would be able to fit your tires easily and you won't have a high centre of gravity that you would have with 6 inches of lift as well as all the other complications that come with that lift.

The tube fenders also keep you away from the "modified" vehicle category when it comes to insurance.

I don't know if you plan on driving this on the road or just wheeling it. If your planing on driving it on the road you may consider re-gearing the axles as your 4 banger will be a real dog. As well at 35 inch tires you are maxing out the strength of the stock axles. People that run the 2.5 usually have some grace as there isn't ooodles of power thrashing them.
