White Jeep Make over - Featuring 50 dollaa Paint Job

    Helo everyone,

So i used to have a Yellow Porsche 944, Everything was cool until my kids were born.

I had to get another toy, but that toy had to a bit less selfish than my Porsche. I finally traded it
for 1995 Jeep YJ. First i thought what the hell did i do. The porsche was mint, and jeep
looked like the owner just wiped his ass on it every time he went.

This is the 1983 Porsche 944

    [IMG][/IMG]

And this, wait for it , wait for it is Jeep YJ 1995

    [IMG][/IMG]

The jeep looked dirty, and had many rust spots, but it had lots of potential.

It was very dirty inside i was storing a short block chevy engine on it for a year, it leaked oil all over the place making the thing, even ugly-eerr.

So had some help of my wife and kids i washed the interior, it took us 4 hours of flushing till the interior was clean free of grease...

    [IMG][/IMG]
helpers holding jeep down as scrubb, .

I had it smelling like Dish soap, but it was better than the Wet dog Smell before i wahed it.

The damages were the usual, symetric holes on corners and below the doors on floor and sides.

    [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

It took me 2 weekends to repair the holes, no power tools, just sand paper and lots of Fiberglassing.....

Well so i'm limited to 10 images...will go on on the next Post.

    Talking Continuing ON...

after some Mad crazy sanding it was ready for some Primer... Tremclad Primer only...No thinner(Mineral Spirits)

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My windshield frame was very rough, i used rust converter...But i will buy another winshy frame later...I just want drive this thing this summer...

I took my hood upstairs...I live in an apartement building... I have to work stealth...if they see a car being paited they might tell me to stop, but i took the chances on the Canada Day weekend and Painted the hood...easier to control the run-ons...when it's on top of a table.....

By the way everything was primed, and the paint was White-Glossy TremClad+ 50% Mineral Spirits....Rolled on with High density foarm rollers.....

    I'm on the 6th coat, I'm Sanding every 2 coats....Like this Primer,Wet Sand 400, COAT,COAT,WET SAND 400,WET SAND 1000,COAT,COAT....repeat..lol don't prime it again..

I used my phone to take the next pictures, it looks better than this way better...i'll charge my wife's camera again.... and retake these....

oh yah 10 images limit....very appropiate.....

    See ya again...

    Continuing On..

I want your opinion...i painted my doors, Half black and half white....Get some of the look of the Half Door but keep my Full doors ON....
and off course, save some cash...It's all taped up because i have a few hundred coats left but you get the idea...

I'm thinking of leaving those run ons on the windshield too..... remind me to make 60% paint, 40 Mineral spirits on the next Paint Job.

I'll keep posting as I go...

Later....I'm on the 8th coat on the body, and 4 th coat on doors.....also thinking of leaving the tailgate black along with Grille.

    Next step:

    Fix and paint the fenders...
More coats on the Jeep till i ran out of paint...

    See ya soon...

So all that paint only cost you 50 dollars? I've spent atleast 25$ in spray bombs just to do my hood and it still looks half assed.

13.00 for 1 liter of Tremclad on Crappy tire...

I bought 2 of them, so that's 26 dollares there...
i spent 20 bux on Sand paper,
and another 20 bux on Mireral spirits....
10 bux on blue shop towells,
    10 bux on rollers.
and some other odd things like, trays, degreasers..
    less than a 100.00,

50 dollars Paint job, is the Internet name that people give it.....the original guy claims the only spent 50 bux....
you can look for it at Rustoleum 50 dollars Paint job on Google.

I won't paint my cars any other way anymore....it just rocks, and very easy, no over spray,no masks, just a roller, and lots of sand paper...coats, coats, coats, but in the end they look amazing....

    Take care...

Definetely more than 50 bux though....i use mineral spirits to wash my rollers/trays and wipe the car with it after wet sanding before the coat, that's why 20 bux for Mineral spirits if you wondering.

I bought all the materials to do the exact same thing on an old car I had.. I spend about $75.

If you have the patience, this can turn out fantastic!

Tremclad is what I had. Next time I will use Rustoleum only because it comes in way more colours.. Like pink...

Nice job on the Jeep. Looks great.

Tremclad is the canadian name for the american Rustoleum. Not all colors are available in canada...

lol thanks, I've been looking for a double garage to rent, but the prices were beyond me, i tryed asking friends for a space on their backyards, nothing was working. So i just decided to just do it.
I have botle of spray with mineral spirits in it for every drop that falls on floor. Credits to wife who allowed all the paint on the dining room table. I promissed her she'll drive the jeep. but she should know better Muhahahahaa!

so true! without your wife's backing, your project may never have taken flight ! You know you have no choice but to let her drive it and then of course you stand the chance of losing it to her if she takes a liking

    Not true.

Without wife's backing, project would most likely have taken flight out of the window, followed by her foot taking flight up your ass

Nice paint job, I have considered the "$50 paint job" myself. Home Hardware has their own version of Tremclad (don't remember the name) they can colour match though. I was thinking of taking in the gas filler cover to match it. Then just do one panel at a time. More power to you for doing it in the parking lot.

Lookin' very good so far. I'd paint the grill, but you could leave the gate black. With the grill blacked out it looked like it was missing at first. You could hit the grill with spray white tremclad... it's gonna get road chips and all those corners will drive you nuts with a roller. I like the 2-tone doors!
