Get out to a jeep meet or large jeep event,
check out the ones on the jeeps,
talk with the owners that already have one you like
and ask them their opinions on them,
most will give you some good advice for yours.

I know TMR Customs makes hinges.

    Good luck with the fab...

trailer bearing hubs work well for the hinge. I would triangulate the vertical member with the horizontal.

Check with Reg, he's in the BAJA Club. He's got a rear bumper on his JK that would suit you. I was looking at it on Saturday and it's a serious bit of kit.

i plan on doing that after the bumper is rough fit onto the jeep. just so i can be sure of the height needed to hold a tire upto 35".

would this be a better hinge design?

    just my $.02
the outside ends, angle them as opposed to 90* corners.
aesthetically pleasing to the eye, little added clearance for tires/trails

other than that, seems nice enough.
    insert something witty here

Second gate hinge design is better IMO, DOM and cold rolled RB with a zerk would be plenty strong and smooth.

thats what im thinking aswell. it would also be easier to make.
should i have a piece of metal to act as a seal for the grease on the bottom.
because at this second the outer sleeve of the hinge is sitting on the top of the bumper. would it be better to have it sit on a piece of plate to help with the paint being rubbed off???
