Rough Country 3.5" lift on JK......thoughts????

    Hey all,

I have an 08 JK unlimited with 33's on stock 18's. I am currently running with a Teraflex leveling kit and I am rubbing at full flex plus using my skid plates a lot.

I am thinking going to a 3.5" lift from Rough Country. http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_3-seriesII.html

What do you guys think? I might go up to 35's when this rubber dies....but for the time being i'm sticking with 33's...this is my daily driver.

    Opinions?

Your front drive shaft will rub the trranny skid when flexed if you go over 3 inches and have an auto. I have 3.5 on mine and have had the front drive shaft replaced because of this. A cheap solution is to trim the tranny skid plate

It is my understanding that this kit comes with skid plate spacers to avoid this from happening. Overall seems like a very complete kit. Just wanted to get some opinions on the Rough Country product and what others have experienced.

The only issue I have had with any of there stuff is leaky shocks after 6 months. They did replace them. If you go this route order it through some one like Jeepman, ordering it directly from Rough Country doesn't save you any money . I have 2 sets of wheel spacers from Rough Counrty. The first 4 I ordered myself from them the other 4 through Jeepman. After I paid shipping, and brokerege fees and exchange it was cheaper to get tme from Jeepman.

As far as Rough Country quality goes, my experience is two years out of date, but I lied Rough Country. We installed stuff from several different companies, and while RC may not be top of the line stuff, it was good quality, consistent, and they were pretty good about giving you the parts you ordered, instead of sending you sway-bar links for a Toyota pick-up in a lift kit for a Ford F-150. (Not an exact example, we never did figure out what the heck those sway bar end links were for...)

I can't remember a customer, or friend, who regretted going with RC. So, when I get lift stuff for my ride, I go with Rough Country.

If I was a Jeep, they'd have parted me out a LONG time ago.

You should be able to fit 35's with no rubbing with a 2.5"lift - budget boost even... Like the earlier poster said - when you lift more than 2.5" on a 2-door you should expect to be replacing your front shaft within 10k kms or so.

Personally, I think I'm going for a 2.5" coil lift come next spring when the time comes for 35's... hopefully it will still fit in the parking garage at work ... too tight or I'd go higher too.

3.5 is a great lift, just be sure to trim your tranny skid or start saving for your new Tom Woods front drive shaft.

If it has new lower control arms, ratchet straps can be a big help shoving the axle around for re-alignment when it comes time to line up holes. If you have trouble lining up the trac bar, and try ratchet straps, tie them off to the frame, and not something besides the Jeep (a danger of pulling the Jeep off of the stands.)

If this post makes no sense, I need more sleep.

    HTH!

Ok.....here's the update.....picked up lift last night......made a pitstop at Princess Auto to get some additional tools.

GrimsbyAl came over to give me a hand.....HUGE thanks goes out to GrimsbyAl as I would have been out of pocket a bunch of money paying to get it installed.

It took a little.....OK....a lot longer than the 3 hours we thought it would......but it finally went together!!!!

The pitman arm was a HUGE PITA!!!! The rear trackbar was a lot fun getting it all lined up with stupid coil in the way....but hey......IT's a JEEP THING!!!!

You know you love Jeeps when you are still working on your Jeep when everyone else out there is still sleeping....or even getting up for work!

GRIMSBYAL fighting with the Front shocks.....they finally came out .....after they BROKE OFF!!! Please note....it's LIGHT OUTSIDE!!!
