    starting issue 87 6cyl

i am having a rough time with my jeep(it has a carb), my jeeps old starter just clicks when its installed. so i pulled one off a fuel injected 4.0 and it seemed to work good. but now it trys to crank over but after 2 seconds it goes zinggggg... i am not sure what is going on here.. b4 it sounded really rough then its at this point. i pulled off the starter again and looked at the fly wheel and it is missing parts of the teeth just like 3/10 is missing. looks like it is not engaging or something. i have no idea whats up here.. any one? im going to change my flywheel in a few mins..

it almost sounds like the solenoid is on the way out , not enough juice throwing the starter gear out

^^agreed. I don't think the 4.0 starter will reach out far enough for the 4.2 ring.
