    Dvsjeep v2.0

I have been getting lots of people asking about my new build so here we go.

The old 88 YJ ( Kinda) had seen better days and after numerous rolls and flops its usable life and reliabilty were suffering, so it was time to start over. Despite many in my club going the way of the buggie, I still wanted a Jeep based rig that could be sealed up to stay dry and warm, but still handle any trail I could throw at it. It was hard to step away from the Leaf Springs, I spent 10 years tweaking that rigs suspension to work with the big boys and it held its own, but with a planned wheel base of 108" from the old 99" , links were the only option.

I kept the 5.7L Vortec and the Front D60 and yarded/ sold the rest. First thing I needed was a new rear axle, so the 14 bolt build began. Electrolytic cleaning of the axle and parts, a Full 3" shave complete with 3/8" off the 5:38 ring gear some new disk brakes, Grizzly Locker and the axle was ready to be tossed under the Bead Blasted hand built Matkins frame.

Leaving the leafs in the back for now, but the front needed to be linked. My D60 was set up for full hydro steering behind the axle so getting a 3 link would be hard enough, but I said hell lets 4 link it. After a TON of measuring, drawing and math, I figured I could make it work with out a panhard. I built a heavy duty truss as it needed to not only support the top links but also handle the steering cylinder duties. Lots of thought into welding and assembly and it all went together as planned.

40" long 2" x 3/8" wall Dom lowers with 1 1/4" Heims/Bushings and 30" long 1 3/4" x .250" wall Dom uppers with 1" Heims were made up and put it. It flexes enough for 18" of shock travel but I am going to be running 2.5" x 14" Fox Air Shocks with it for now.

Thats as far as I am right now, but will add to the slide show as things progress.

    Thanks guys!!

DVSJEEP = DeviousJeep lol so no its not Dave's Jeep or anything else..lol . I use to have a 77 Vette that was plated DVSVET sold it to start this hobbie and switched the name over..

I will check the exact measurements on my 14B today but the math says it is 5.5" below the center line of the axle. I do know that without tires it rolls around on the rotors with room to spare under the shave and 14B axle shafts are plenty strong in stock form.

I have some 35" shop rollers on it now and there is about 11" clearance. 6" from the center of axle tube to the bottom.

Its the Baileys in the coffee. I thought it had something to do with his business.

Sean, is your front shaft going to be lower than the control arms? Or is just the angle of the picture? I think this little girl is a bit worried

A lot of the above pictures are borderline porno... nice build. Looking forward to being at the same events but different trails because, let's face it, I have a Rubicon.

I'm planning to shave my 14 the same way.... still deciding weather to get the ring turned or not. I've done a few before just putting a 3/8" plate as close to the ring as possible..... did you turn it down yourself?

Its low right now, but I have to roll the axle forward which will bring the pinion up, but good eye its very close, thats also at about 16" of droop when the uppers start to tilt the pinion back down, I am only going to be running 10" droop & 4" compression and it looks like it will ok there. Thanks for looking that close at it!!
