First Jeep TJ, First Year adventures with my Heep

I figured it was about time I started a thread for my newest bit of vehiculer ADD. This is my 2004 Jeep TJ Sport I picked up from Bruckus back in October of 2010.

He already had it modified with a 2 inch budget boost 1 inch body lift and some 33" Super Swampers. I picked it up with his 31" Geolander Ice Terrains since it was almost winter anyways. I picked up the Pro Comp Rear bumper from the Toy Fundraiser and got the the Hella Black Magic lights for Xmas. The license plate mount is thanks to looking at Wrangler's Heep.

My first real modification was a set of old American Racing 15x10 Chrome Steelies from TJ Rex and some 33x 12.5 BFG Mud Terrain KM2's. I really had a problem with mud and water overspray lol.

This led into a set of Bushwacker flat flairs to round everything out and tinting my front signals.

I had quite a blast at Jk101 and after that I really needed a CB. Due to the fact I ran with no doors so often Cobra had my only option. This idea I grabbed from a guy on Jeepforum.com and I also made a custom mount for the remote.

Everything ran smooth for the times I went up for the Bobcaygeon clean-up's

At that point I decided that I better get the oversized spare dealt with. I took my drawings in to TMR and had them fabricate a spare tire support.

After that I had a few adventures which resulted in the following damage from Lasso Loop/ The Rock in the wet. A special Thanks to Colin(EatingSpam) and James for helping me getting my heep off the trail and Dave from Just Jeeps for lending me an axel shaft. It was certainly a memorable first break.

After that we did some night wheeling on Scotch Line which ended up with some drunk guys following us in a full size truck and a decent run on Joe Hill the next day.

When I got home I found the rest of the work I had to do. I picked up another transfer case skid from Dwayne and went back to TMR to get my new oil pan re-inforced.

I have definately had my fun with it this year. I even used it as a truck to haul crap once or twice lol

2 weeks before Camp NL the clutch barely started to slip. I left it for a couple days and then I really started to get concerned with it. I was really busy with work and what not, so doing it myself was not an option in the timeframe I had. I called up Jim from Rockspyder 4x4 because he is one of the few people I trust to work on my heep. He managed to squeeze me in on 2 days notice and I am sure glad I did. This is what my pressure plate looked like when it was taken out.

Camp NL went great and I managed to to break anything. During the next run up to Bobcaygeon the U-Joint in my front driverside axel shaft started to get a bit angry. I picked up a set of really really rusty axels for $100 to use as spares. I had to use 2 different size extractor sockets and a sledge hammer in order to get the front shafts out.

Even the U-joint was solidly rusted into place. I ended up having to use a ball peen hammer to carefully, but agressively hit the caps to dislodge them a little. Then I just used my U-Joint clamp and my impact and out they came.

After some work with a grinder and sand paper I hit it with a little paint to hold the rust at bay for a while.

That is more or less where I am at now. Tonight I have to strip the rear axel and replace the U-joint in the passsenger front spare shaft I have. I plan on changing the suspension around next year, but for now it flexs out enough.

Actually that photo is from Bradford after I tested out the new tires and stopped for some beer. I've got another little upgrade coming from TMR this week to replace another mashed stock piece.

My front lower control arms took a fair bit of abuse this year.

So it was time for Tim and Mike to fix me up with proper replacements.

Yeah Matt it was definately a blast. Next time we will get Chris to take off the crocs before he goes after you :P. I expect it will be a much more capable rig by the time you get back from out west. My Tie rod is the next purchase from TMR after seeing how many of them got thrashed this season.

Go for the 7075 version! I watched it push a boulder out of the way and go right back into proper shape!

That is the plan, although I don't think I'm going to flip it quite yet.

I am going to have to start over again. My poor Jeep was taken out by a dump truck who ran a red light on Monday. I managed to walk away which says a fair bit about the quality of a Jeep. RIP TJ.

Step 1 - Fuel efficient daily driver.
    Step 2 - One-ton TJ project.

Hope you are alright.....it sucks but look at this as the start of a bigger project!

The next rig is having at least one locked axle for sure. Lift height is staying between 3-4 inches with metal cloaks. Probably going to stick with 33 inch tires too.
