How can I get a Chinese Cherokee

I'm not looking for a Beijing 2500 front end kit from ebay. I'm trying to find out how to get the whole thing. How would you go about doing it? Can it even be done? What are the axles like?
Is it possible to get a 2.5 diesel from Europe?
I've searched around. I've seen some scams but that's it.
    thanks
    Scott

I would contact a car importer and ask them.

    Obvious issues are:
    Emissions
    Safety systems (bumpers, airbags, etc)
    Suitable documentation

Those are all parts. I would like to find the whole thing. Maybe I'm chasing something that would cost too much in the end but my I started thinking about how one day I would have to give up my xj and wondered what I would replace it with. I can't see getting an Unlimited and a Liberty is out of the question. Fak.

    Two options:

    1. a company in Toronto imports skylines all the time from Japan for customers...maybe they can help.

    2. get an xj from arizona, cheap and absolutely NO RUST and put the 2500 front clip on.

WJs aren't my thing. I really love my xj. I was hoping there would already be a few in North America but you are right, I would have to call an importer or find a super clean, somehow gremlin-free southern xj and have Greg at Overland Diesel convert it. Or find something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-...item35b5c4ac81 giggidy.

I just brought my 83 cj7 back from arizona and I couldn't be happier...when they say no rust, the mean absolutely no rust.

When I did my lift, every bolt on it "cracks loose" and then I can turn it with my fingers.

Even if you buy one with 'gremlins' as long as you have a cheap rusted out canadian one for a donor, you are as good as gold.

Thanks for the info guys. And thanks for pointing out what I should have known about Chinese quality. The more I look at the old wagoneers the more I want one.

Wow, that seems expensive but they are Japanese, probably in like new shape and diesel. I imagine that by the time I have something shipped and made legal for Canada I could have something a lot nicer from here. I guess it would depend on the original cost of the vehicle too. If I go down this road I'll give them a call. For the time being I'm just being depressed about the future. Many I wish Jeep would bring back the Cherokee. Skip it. I'l get an Arizona jeep and put an injected engine in it like I put an ls2 and vette brakes in my 68 firebird. If they won't make what I want, I will. I don't like cars that don't have problems anyway.

I'm thinking of bringing one over, a friend of mine imports several containers of tractors a month from China I was thinking of bringing it over "for offroad use only". The new new ones are junk but the ones they built up till 2005 have a Mitsubishi 2.5 diesel which is a bit gutless but parts should be attainable here. I looked into it you can get a mint one for about 5 grand over there.

i had a Mitsubishi Pajero 4 door. As close to an XJ you will get. Diesel, turbo, intercooled, stock 4.88 gears, center diff lock, awd, 4hi and 4lo, air suspension front seats. Biggest sunroof i have ever seen.
Great truck. Threw 33's on it with no lift.

I saw one of those in Costa Rica. I thought they were awesome before and even more now. CR had them in left hand drive so they must be out there somewhere.

Skip it. If I have to get a vehicle that is at least 15 years old and then pay all kinds of cash for shipping and conversion and everything else I'll ust find a rust free vehicle here and have Greg at overland diesel convert it. Thanks for all the input guys.
