Hey all, have a 98 Dakota 4wd and have taken the front passenger CV axle out to replace it and decided to replace the axle seal at the same time (there's a leak around the end of the shaft which is either from the axle or coming down from the engine, can't tell...but the front diff was low on fluid when I checked). I have the axle shaft and seal out but was wondering how to inspect the axle shaft bearing to see if it's bad or not. I haven't noticed any noise coming from it on the road, and the bearing looks as far as I can tell as it should. How can one tell if a bearing is bad or not by looking at it? Will a bad bearing make noise if I reinstall the axleshaft and turn it by hand?
