    83 nighthawk 650

So I'm about to pick up this bike off a teacher at my school, just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this particular bike. It has sat for 13 years but just rebuilts carbs and she fires right up. Needs new tires battery and fork seals for sure, is thier anything else I should look out for? Only has 26xxx kms. Cosmetically this bike is in great shape tell me what yas think!...and yes I am a newb to the bike world.

I'm not a bike guy, but I had two of them...83 and 84. never had a problem with either one.

The four carb set-up likes the gas more than other bilkes that size, but who cares when you go 500km on $8?

The 83 was my first motorcycle when I was 16, and it was easy to ride.

check, all fluids before firing it up, cables, shocks, brakes.....and tire pressure before u ride it....also every time u ride it check throttle return, brakes and tires...Ya I know i said everytime but its a good habit, more riders go down because of those 3 things.
my wife (RIP) hated my jeep too so i ran her over with it and now we are both happier (me and the jeep)

because it sat for so long just start it up and let it get to full temp shut it down and full cool ,do this for a few days and see if any seals start cracking and if you plan on riding it, short tips for a bit untill your sure that it's safe and reliable. you don't want to end up on your head at 80km cause the motor or tranny locked up ..

Lubricate your cables too, drain and bleed your hydraulic clutch/ brake system and check that the calipers move freely and the lines are in good shape.

I've personally flushed/ changed any fluids on it except the highbeam fluid...hehe... I know it needs new tires and rear shocks, engine is sound, gonna change all fluids again in 500 km just cause I know the tranny is kinda sticky, only thing else I can think of is bushings might be going and a friend said the chain driven crank balancer tends to slacken off? Anyway thanks for the replies will let yas know how it goes when I get er home

The CB series of Hondas are pretty good bikes. Iv had a few myself, CB400T, CB550, CB750, and the ultimate in the CB Series... 1979 CBX SS in Candy Red. Nothing like an 1100 cc inline 6 cyl motorcycle. Now I ride a 2009 HD Rocker. So.. Im biased.

there was a top ten bike list on a bike show and a cb 750 was number two the reason it was not number one is that it ran too smooth. there test bike needed a battery and fluid change. it sat for 25 years! not bad 2nd place for a bike that sat that long. change your brake fluids ,and make sure your calipers dont stick!!{had a front brake seize up at 50 not fun} good luck and happy riding.
