Let the games begin. Turned by hand good even better with a little oil in the cylinders. Didn't fire up because the starter is pretty much toast but close. Good compression and only one slightly fouled plug. Carb and everything pretty much for that matter looked clean. Frames mint and body needs love but bed isnt really as bad as I remembered. And it has the 4 low box, sweet. Some only had 4 high. Even the gas tank looks decent. Thought it was cooked. A spit shine here and there and should be sweet little truck.

    Sorry dude, missed your post.

First things first is i didn't get an ownership. Buddy said it was still in his neighbors name from when he owned it but not a problem blah blah blah. Now can't get a hold of him. Any ideas? MTO with the VIN to check ownership name then track them down or.....?

If ownership goes through then i'll get it fired, pull the gas tank for a cleaning and pick up a gas cap. lol. Didn't have one. Slap it back in and boot around the barn to check the rest of the drive train and brakes. Pull the tires off, clean and paint rims, and put on some free to me 33" MTZ's. Check fluids then probably 10 day temp it to get it to the cave for a lot of cutting, patching, welding, etc. Got a line on some front fenders and doors so replace those. Make up a couple bumpers. Find some free to me shocks. lol. Throw in what ever i can find for cheap/comfy seats and seat belts. Exhaust needs some attention, front down pipe is rotted out so patch it up here and there or maybe rig up a dual setup. Make sure heater, wipers, etc work, rig up/fix up some lights, find a gladiator grill. Buy some rattle cans and paint away. Probably missed a couple things but that's as far as my brain has made it. Probably be a few gremlins here and there but that's expected. When i picked it up buddy said if it wasn't gone in a week it was heading to the wreckers. So my goal is turn a scrap yard bound heep into a decent looking and running machine for around 500 bucks.

Go to the ministry and buy a used vehicle package. The package will tell you the current owners name and address. Go and get the current owner to sign the used vehicle package. You will have to spend $10 extra for the ownership when you do transfer it though. Its a bunch of running around, but its easy and cheap to get all done.
Don't forget you need to get an appraisal to put it in your name.

Curt, you can try tracking him down, but I would start with getting the MTO to try to print a UVIP for it...that would be the easiest thing to get them to do for you. If it is available you will need it to register the truck anyway, so it would be $20 well spent...if they can't find the VIN in their system, then they can't charge you the $20 because there is no paperwork available...the UVIP would show who the last registered owner was and you could start your search there.

I just went through the process of getting an ownership for the wife's 75 CJ5, it is a very easy process that seems like it would be rather complicated...depending on which MTO office you use they could try to make you jump through hoops as it is not a common thing that comes up for them...but like I said...really easy...keep me posted I can walk you through what you need to do...

Well, got the UVIP and a name and general location of the current owner. I googled, canada411'd and white paged the name and came up with one maybe 2 matches. The dude it was purchased from said it was a neighbors he bought it from for $1000 who still had the ownership. Can't get a hold on the dude i purchased from. The closest name matches i found for said owner were probably 20-30 k away. So either wrong person(s) or dude has a different definition of neighbor. lol

So.............try/track owner down or save the gas and hassles and just get an affidavit of ownership signed. MTO said if i couldn't find him then that would be the next step. Any possible repercussions of just skipping this guy? Couldn't really see it but........call him or piss on it? Opinions?

Oh ya, UVIP says "Unfit - Ministry records show this vehicle may be mechanically unfit. License plates cannot be attached to the vehicle unless a safety standards cert is provided to ministry"

I thought every vehicle needed a safety when it changes ownership? Am i missing something?

When was it last registered? UVIP should say that...as info on UVIP is updated each year when a new sticker is purchased...the longer it has been the better of you are (in my opinion)...oh, and hold on to the UVIP, you will need it when you finally register it in your name...

You have already searched on CPIC and it doesn't come up as stolen, so skipping the attempt to contact might not be an issue, but it could also come back to bite you in the ass if for some reason dude hears about it (goes to his buddy's place and the truck is no longer there, etc.) and then reports it stolen...

EDIT: never mind on the dude hearing about it...misread what you put earlier...I thought it was "being stored" on buddy's farm, but you say he bought it from the "neighbour"...

In my opinion, at least make the attempt of a phone call...make notes of the call on the affidavit of ownership...the more info you have on the affidavit the better for you...

EDIT: based on the info in my other edit, just start doing the affidavit...
