Take a look at Novak Adapters website. They give the best advise as to what will fit where, years, and all the parts you need to swap almost anything into a Jeep

I got my 5.0 out of a grand marquis i bought for 700 and bolted up to a nv3550 out of a tj. That way you can use your transfercase and keeps costs down. Talk to eric at staangs fab he did my swap for me. Used the computer from the merc. It was an 88 grand marquis with 180k on it. Runs mint.

I have a 5.0 LTR from a 87 Crown Vic, with a ford AOD transmission. I also used a Dana 300 and purchased a adapter from AA. But, if I had to do it all over again, I would use a Vortec 5.3 and a 4L60 (See TJ Build) and a passnager side drop from a NP241C.

I have a few pictures posted in my blog.

Don't get me wrong, the only issue is my TV cable transmission. I wished I had an electrically shifted transmission in my YJ 5.0

I am running SEFI for the 5.0 ltr, once you spend the time to figure one engine out they are all pretty much the same. The only nice thing about running the 87 5.0ltr vs the 1999 5.3 vortec is you don't need to send the computer to be reprogrammed. It's not that big of a deal any more, as places on line charge $75.00 bucks to reprogram the vortec's and remove VATS, and extra O2 Sensors, etc.

If you are planning on running a stock Dana 35/30, don't. I have already started to twist the spines on my Dana 44 rear and with a manual transmission you will have more drive line shock vs an automatic transmission that I am currently running.
