    Scarlett Build

Scarlett - Red and scarred from a minor accident earlier in her life

    How she started:

    1997 Jeep TJ Flame Red
    4.0, 3-spd 32RH
    D30/35 3.07

Until now ive mostly been taking her apart for minor work and am still currently buying parts for the final build to be ready for this wheelin' season.

After lifting my ZJ last summer and not getting it quite trail ready (tcase etc) I gave into the urge of finally grabbing a TJ near the end of the season. I sold the ZJ to a good friend (nickyb33) and picked her up from Paul (JPhoenix) who ended up picking up the Cherokee that I was looking at as a parts vehicle lol. Things worked out well in the end for all parties and this is how she sat...

It wasn't long before I started hacking things away

Got a little wet... cupping your hand over your eyes sure helps for those summer storms lol

V1.0 of the suspension started with a 2" Rubicon Express Budget boost with extended shocks and an extra isolater

Upper shock mounts, nothing a quick hit with the impact couldn't get out

You always end up breaking something else while working.. new brake line along the way lol

A new soft top then followed from Rick (zombie - Thanks!!!)

Next up was a set of rubicon side rails and some RE quick disconnects that I picked up relatively cheap

Time passed and I found a pretty complete used lift for sale from Havoc... not long after it came to it's new home

Tightened and rebuilt some of the arms

Had to drill and tap a set screw on one of the arms that wouldn't budge with any type of allen head

Set of Trail Head tube fenders waiting to go on...

I was finally ready to start installing the RE 3.5 kit

When I went ahead to start removing the front track bar, I realized the original nut had been replaced and no matter what size wrench I used I couldn't get one on... The mount had previously been hacked up and I noticed a lump of weld on and below the nut. A little bit of grinding and some hitting with a chisel removed it and I was finally able to pull the axle end of the track bar out.

The frame end was just cut out to avoid wasting time as the ball stud was just spinning freely

    More parts to go in

    RE adjustable track bar in

Left front lower control arm cam bolt wouldn't budge, sawsmost took care of that one

I was bored one day and decided I had enough of the chrome. 3 little bolts and they're out for a quick sand and some Krylon Fusion black. I like how they turned out, i'd like them a bit more dull but they'll do for now

    The 8.8

I've been talking about doing an 8.8 swap for a while now and have been reading about them for the last few months. Just so happened a deal on a 31 spline, disc brake, open carrier 8.8 from an Explorer popped up with some goodies and I couldn't resist. Thanks to Tony (onehoser) for meeting up to grab it!

    Some of the parts included:

NEW in box - rotors, pads, seals, bearings
NEW Ruff Stuff 3/8" diff cover
NEW Ruff Stuff 8.8 leaf spring swap (sold to RDA cheers!)
    1310 flange adapter

I got a chuckle out of the dude on the pads box.... sparkle sparkle

Along the way Sara arranged a pickup for Kerry (Dirty Money) to grab a couple of goodies, a 40 sure does take up space in a tiny garage lol

Bit of Kijiji and web wheeling from the garage

Got out to enjoy some more of this fine weather and bolted in my new seats to see how I like them...

Verdict is....... they're great. Wouldn't fit someone much bigger than me though, but comfy and a good fit.

Much better than those rainbow seats
