    Vehicle #3

This is a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais I bought new in Dec.1978. 305 chevy and four barrel.Been winter stored since 1984 and used for car shows only in summer.I never had this happen before but went to start it to go to a show last Sunday and the starter kept cranking even after taking the key out of the ignition.Guess its a good thing it didn't start huh.Had to disconnect the battery.

What ya think? starter drive or ignition switch. It didn't start because it takes a while to get the gas from the tank.

    Optima red top?

I had the same problem on my Vette and Jeep when I was using a Optima that wasn't in great shape. Get it fixed, then take the starter solenoid apart and clean up the solenoid contacts. Cleaning the contacts prior to replacing the battery only temporarily worked for me. I think it has to do with the voltage dropping excessively the solenoid will not release.
