    Another doorless thread.....

    Hello ON Offroad.

Thank you so much for contributing your time and experience; greatly appreciated. Hope to meet you at an event some day.

The question being pondered will probably have an answer in the common sense area of life, so I'll word it this way:

Would you please speak to the legalities of going doorless with a Cherokee or similar type of Jeep?

    Thank-you.

Thanks TNC, it's my pleasure to help out!

As it was explained to me by one of my colleagues who is a vehicle inspector: The body and structural design of the CJ/YJ/TJ/JK was to make the removal of the doors possible, without compromising any safety features. In other words, they were made for it.

The "Cherokee" style of bodies when they were designed, were not intended for the doors to be removed. The doors on these are essentially part of the safety features of them as well, and therefore may create an unsafe situation driving without them.

I know there are many on this forum who might argue that point, but from a legal standpoint I can only state that you COULD be charged with an unsafe vehicle.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope the info helps!

Certainly would like to hear otherwise but common sense spells it out. Good to hear it from an experienced voice.

Thank-you very much for your prompt reply.

    Take care.
