    '05 TJ Keeps Blowing Fuses

    Hi all,

Recently I installed a set of Hella 500s on my Jeep TJ using the factory wiring and switch. Everything worked great...for one day until I suddenly didn't have any interior lights or tail lights and front marker lights. For some reason as soon as I turn on the headlight switch one notch, fuse number one in the fuse box (behind the glove box) blows instantly. I've been through about 6 fuses trying different things.

The low beams, high beams, turn signals, four ways, brake lights, dome light and Hellas work(ed) fine. I've since disconnected the Hellas. I'm guessing it's a short and I've been trying to find it, but haven't had any luck. Anyone have any advice or some guidance to help me find the problem?

At this point I cannot be certain that the Hellas are the problem as they have been disconnected and the problem remains. I think they are also on a separate circuit and fuse.

Could be the switch as well.

If you want to test you can borrow one from a CJ, YJ or TJ. I believe they are all the same. I'm using a CJ in my TJ.
Had a similar problem. Dimmer was shorting out.

    Good luck

My TJ never had the fog light switch on the multi-function switch. I swapped with a friend of mine who's switch had the fog option. I've since put my old switch in and had the same result. The only other thing that has changed is the addition of a fog light relay.

I've found the problem. On Wednesday when I went for a drive I folded the rear seat down and in doing so carelessly pinched the trailer wiring. Now I'm off to rewire the Hellas.
