    New YJ Project

Hey Ive been a long time member of jeepkings since I bought and built my first jeep about 9 years ago at 15.
Ive come and gone as my jeeps did having to sell for business and house ect.
Well finally I got back into it with this 1987 Jeep YJ in need of lots of work.
Cant wait to get it back to the shop to get it torn apart.
It has a great running 4.0l with an AX-15 transmission in it with 25,000kms now.
Starting thursday night the tear down begins.
Hope to be out on some trails with yeas come spring.

Nice man, sounds like a good base for a build. Especially since th BA 5/10 and the 4.2 are already swapped.

Yeah the engine and tranny already swapped is what made me buy the jeep sight unseen. Unfortunately the tub is shot and fenders but that allows me to tear it right down to the frame now and build this thing to last. Started tear down last weekend.Click image for larger version.

Ripped everything apart down to frame and drivetrain and it looks the previous engine had blew up and coated 90% of the frame in oil and once i pressure washed the dirt and oil off found the frame to have original paint and the only rusted part was the rear crossmember in front of gas tank and it was just surface so i sanded the frame down completely and bed lined it all only getting 2 coats done on the weekend and going to do one more this coming weekend as well as tear down to prep for the soa lift.

Havent been back to the garage to work on this for a while so not much farther ahead. I did however get a new tub, windshield frame and fender ordered from blenheimboy. Cant wait to pick up the suspension build parts and hopefully get the suspension done in time to pick up the body parts and get going on the build up again.Attachment 84708Attachment 84709

sorry to say dude just like pav1 you also got ripped off ..that's not a real yj tub ..that's a chinese knockoff ..come on dude look at it says jeep indented on the side that sticker it's obviously covering a defect and where are the floor windows ..there should be one at the driver and passenger's feet to see what your running over when off roading and behind the front seats there also should be 2 large drain holes around the roll cage mount for quick drainage after a river crossing ...i hope you didn't pay to much for this .. now if you look at igotafrigginjeeps pic's of he wife's jeep that's what a real jeep tub looks like ...sorry you got such a bad deal but now you know the difference and you won't get burned again!!!

Thats not Blenheimboy's fault though right? it would be the junk yard on the other end, But now i'm curious, How would they make a chinease knock off yet it was on a yj? hmm

Damn so you mean the one i took to the scrap yard was a real jeep body. Wonder if theyll sell it back to me for the 30 bucks I got for it. lol.
It not only had the windows at your feet but also in the sides to tell how close to a tree you were with doors on. ill definately miss the huge drain holes my old on had. Might actually have to use drain plugs this time.

Got a bit of time to work on it this weekend. Got the old shocks removed and the new pro comp 9000s installed. Got the tub linexed. Linexed the full underside, full inside and firewall. Very happy with the turn out. Hopefully pick up the lift next weekend and install the following weekend, put new gas and brake lines in, swap out broken speedo cable for new one and set the tub back on to start reassembly.Click image for larger version.

Well I got a day to work on the jeep this weekend got the rear suspension lift installed, replaced the brake lines quick while I was there. @ weekends from now when I get home ill be installing t case drop and lift in front. But main focus this weekend was prepping the tub. Sanded it all down, fixed the few minor imperfections and primed it all. Just sat it back on the frame to make way for tractors to get the blowers on. Also tested the paint colour on a half door. Happy with it so will pick up more.Click image for larger version.

Im very happy with how it turned out it hold up really well. I was inside putting everything back together today and didnt even scratch it.
Well I got a couple hours today to work on the jeep. I got the new tires and rims put on, got the heater core and assembly put back together along with the rest of the dash and guages, got the wiring harness reinstalled and all hooked up, (yet another jeep the previous owners should not have done electrical work on so had to fix a lot of it) got most of the engine bay put back together and all hoses ran, also managed to get the rool bar on and set the speaker bar on. Sound system and paint to come next probably not till the x mas holidays though. Few pics of progress.
