    Third brake light removal

    A lot of people remove the third brake light ,also known as the CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Light), on Jeeps to be able to mount a larger spare tire or aftermarket spare tire carrier. What are the legal ramifications of this. I think I know the answer, but don't know the specific legislation.

    Personally, when I build my tire carrier I built is a LED third brake light, so it's not so much for me, but I have bubbies that do have the light removed and they've never had an issue, but...

    I'm sorry for the short answer, I just don't have the time at the moment to get the link.

    There is another thread in here I believe, where I refer to the need to keep any and all Federally mandated safety equipment in place and functioning.

    As mentioned in that thread, one COULD be charged for not having it there.
