    My Plans

    Hello everyone.

I just bought my first jeep (2001 TJ) about 1 month ago and I love it more each day.

I bought my jeep as a DD (Daily Driver?) but I would like to look at running some Basic trails. Some of the things I would like to do are add Lights, Both for my emergency response and Trails. I would also like to change the Front bumper and add a winch.

I would also like to try and start meeting other people so I can one day go out on some trails. I hear there are sometimes meets held at Hutches on Sundays. I’ll keep an eye for them and others.

there's a thread about LED lighting and there's some good youtube vid's about off road lights most of them a better flood lights then spot lights so if you go the way you mite want to add a projector light or 2 for distance ... if you post in the " want to buy " thread for a bumper i'm sure someone will be changing one soon or if you looking for a new one there are a few site sponsors that can build one for you .. staangs is burlington and i've seen the things they come up with ,have fun trying to bend or break there sh!t
what are your future plans for the jeep " lift, tires, wheels, motor ???

    Lighting:
I plan on having my response lights concealed.
I was going to look at using Trilliant® Cube LED Work Lamp
But now that I have seen LED Light Bars I'm Liking them.

    Bumper:
I Like the looks of the "Crawler style" with fog lights built in. Thanks if the heads up. I'll post in the wanted area when I'm ready.

    Tires:
Might look at 33's I'm told I might be able to put them on with out a lift.

    Lift:
Nothing yet. My wife has a hard time getting in now. lol

    Motor:
    Nothing yet:
    Not in the budget.

bumper: mite have to add a bit more lift in the front for the weight of the winch and bumper

tires: 33's yup only if you plan on driving in a straight line with no bumps ..they'll rub the fenders and control arms you'll need wheels with 3.75 back space and 2"min lift

lift: add one 1" to your wifes heels for every inch of lift you'll both be happy !!

    My Plans

I was going to replacing the factory ones but I now I'm going to be looking at mounting at the bottom of the windsheld.

I told my wife about your idea with the lift. She Laughed, but I don't think it was a "go head" laugh. :/

    Re: My Plans

Another option to get larger tires without a lift is aftermarket fenders. Metalcloak makes some nice ones or trailhead makes a similar product for less.
2010 JK Unlimited Sahara, rubi axles, 35" duratracs, OME lift: Written off, RIP.

You are definitely gonna want to put some lift on your jeep if you plan on wheeling. I put 31's on my TJ when I bought it and it was tight (mind you my shocks and springs needed replacing) but still wouldn't have been much room for flex on the trail.

As for wife getting in it, she'll find a way Hell Im not very tall and can get in the Juggy with a mini skirt on...without a panty show lol

I thought it was a good Idea!

So to tag along on a basic Trail What would be the minimum I would need?

The Guys at work say I need to find the equivalent to a "Bunny hill".

    Re: My Plans

I ran my LJ rubi dead stock with the exception of a winch (saves getting yanked) and a snorkel (cheep insurance, Ontario trails tend to be wet in places) all last summer. I did just about any trail I wanted through picking good lines, using spotters and taking the bypass when I knew it was way to dumb. You don't NEED anything. I recommend people go out stock at least a couple of times with someone willing to show them the ropes and pull them out when stuck before entering into a build... That said, more skid plates more better.

not much happens at this time of year most of the trails are turned over to the snowmobiles but when the ground gets harder there are a few snow runs ...just have good tow points front and rear and straps if you don't put on a winch ...

Hey who you calling "Old Dudes"?

    Back to O.P.
As was already said, most Trails are closed for the season until May 1st. So you have some time to prepare. If you join the OF4WD there is a Trail Index with GPS tracks and detailed trail descriptions including what Class of Rig you'll need to run each trail. Then just make sure you have front and rear Tow Points, decent tires and someone who already knows what they are doing. A good guide can save you a lot of $$$ in damage. So get out and meet some other Jeepers over the winter, make some friends, someone will "Adopt" you and teach you the ropes.

The best bumper mod you could make is to add a winch. This is the only practical way to have a means of independent self recovery and is the single most important tool or mod you could make to be trail-worthy.

No chance of fitting 33's without rubbing at some point without a lift....and not even close to being able to wheel.

I'd highly recommend a good 31" all terrain type of tire if this is your daily driver and you are new to wheeling. You can easily clear 31's with a 2" budget boost spring spacer kit and shocks. 31's will fit on OEM rims, will keep the axle gearing somewhat in check and be kind to your axles. The heep can be easily returned to stock if required as well.

Best to leave the engine alone for the time being if it running fine.

    We won't mind I promise.

To OP. As CDT said 31" tires may be the best place to start I forgot that my rubi came stock on 31s so that helped. There are a few sets in the for sale forum right now
