    HOV lane "green"

I was going accross the QEW today and noticed the HOV lane has a sign saying "green allowed". Does this mean if I paint the jeep green I can use it or is it for people with a prius only?

Didn't you know, everyone can now drive in the HOV lanes, doesn't matter, at least that's the impression I got last time I drove home in rush hour and counted over 20 vehicles with only one person in them driving in the HOV lane.

    Re: HOV lane "green"

Here is a link to the green plates (not to be confused with Off Road Vehicle plates) and how it pertains to the HOV lane.

    http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...n-plates.shtml

It appears if you have one of these electric vehicles, and plate it as such, you are exempt from the usual provisions of the HOV lane.

What I need to know is are you legally obligated to be wearing the hipster glasses to use the green plates?

Wow that's one messed up, misguided bit of policy there. Thanks for hunting it down

Not a lot of pure electric & plug-in electrics. Telsa, Nissan Leaf, and very late model Prius are the only ones that come to mind.

So what about the hipsters that do the S10 / Ranger electric conversions?

The way I read the law, as long as you have the green electric vehicle plates, they will not discriminate between who can be in the HOV lane. Green plates = HOV

I read it that way too. But how do you qualify for one? As I see it, only factory PIE vehicles would be allowed.

I have no idea what the qualification process is. I'm going to guess and say there isn't an established process for the general public to get a previously unqualified vehicle qualified.

I believe it said "used 2010 and newer", probably precludes anyone who's made the full electric conversion to a "stock" car since no-one would probably do it to a car that new.
