    1980 CJ-7 Golden Eagle

Well this is exciting! The first vehicle I owned of any kind was a 1980 CJ-7 Golden Eagle. It was a Christmas present in 1988 from my Mom and Dad. It was awesome, but had lots of rust issues already. I learned a lot about Jeeps starting back then, and have owned many since. Recently I had a chance to buy an original paint/decals rust-free 1980 GE just like the one I had back in 1988. So I pulled the trigger and it now sits in my garage. Follow along as I clean it up to make it a bit more cosmetically presentable. 1980 was the last year for the GE package, and came with some nice updates over the 1977-1979 versions. This one has 99,xxx mi on it and spent it's life in Arizona.

Dec 16, 2012- Clean Up Begins

Here it is as I was towing it back from MI yesterday. I have already started removing all the turn signal lenses, flares, wheels, etc in order to give it a thorough cleaning. After this is complete I will strip out the interior to do the same there. It is a very solid, straight, rust-free CJ!

    More Pics...

Thanks for your compliments. Here are some pics of the work I did today (all flares and rockers removed, as well as signal marker lights and hood catches/tie downs). Note how dirty the floors are- yes that is dirt. Imported all the way from AZ.

Thanks! I love it. Then again I love all CJ's! Here are some pics of the continued cleanup. The inside of the tub under the carpets is filthy!

    Unbelievably clean unmolested! Crazy!

Any chance that thing has a 304 in it? I know 80 was the last year and I have noticed many GE's and Renegades had that option.

That is an awesome machine. Those southerner's are so lucky to not have to subject there Jeeps to our harsh winters and salt. What a difference it makes. it is nice to see one so solid & original. Have fun with it.
New car. Gotta have a new car to block for the truck.

Dec 19, 2012- Tub looking better!

I have been cleaning the tub out. Man it is filthy. It is not done yet, but is looking a lot better. I removed the roll bar, and cleaned under it, then Krowned it like mad. There is no rust at all under the roll bar. I reinstalled the rockers, CB antenna and the rear flares. Also installed a dash pad (Levi Tan) in awesome condition that I had laying around. The original one had a few cracks from the Arizona sun. Also installed all new (NOS) soft top snaps and screws on the body.

^ Thanks guys! Unfortunately no it does not have the V8. It has the 258 inline 6. It might be getting the 304 though . 1981 was the last year for the special order V8 (304) in a CJ5 or CJ7. It was never made available for order in the new (at the time) 1981 Scrambler.

    Dec 22, 2012- More Cleanup

Got the floors cleaned up enough to get the front seat and center console back in. Also installed the OE rear storage box, which was an accessory that Jeep offered in the 80's.
