    Beginner driver ins?

My son is starting to drive soon. Does he need insurance to drive on a learner permit? (I know this is no longer the lingo, but my last exp. with this was 33 years ago)
There are no other drivers in the home and I have several vehicles. Does he automatically become primary driver on one of them?
    Thanks

usually yes but unless you have an agreement with your ins that conditional drivers won't drive your car I wouldn't say anything unless they ask you as long as you follow the conditions of the licence IE 0 blood alcohol/ driver with over minim experience in the passenger seat no 400 series hwy you will be covered. But on the other hand the sooner you can have him on as an occasional driver the better his ins rating will be.

With a G1 licence, they are not insurable yet, they get covered under the cars insurance.
As a G2 you must list them on the policy

^correct a g1 is covered in any car with a g class rating a g2 is not, the driver beside them also has to have had there license for 4 years or more

Thank you I know of at least 5 G1 drivers that are insured as occasional and yes G2 are covered for under occasional use IE to the store for milk unless there's a condition that you need approval from ins first. My sister was just in this situation with her daughter last month where someone hit her if she wasn't on as occasional she would have use of the car for under 2000k a year.
