I could be wrong but pretty sure it's just a vent for the gas tank. My line from the tank up to the cannister rotted away long ago. Might want a second opinion but you can likely just toss the fawker out.

I thought tossing it would cause the computer to throw a code?
I remember reading something about the canister catching overflow from the gas tank or something like that???? Think I read that in JP mag recently.

    Edit
    Google. F*ck yeah.
"Its to draw off fuel vapor from tank. [...] But you will throw a code if the system is not air tight."

I dont know about "throwing" a code but it wont pass e test with it disconected. its very important for collecting the fumes from the fuel

So from the bit of research I've done its 50/50 weather I need it or can toss it. Not many people have done done a build on a newer TJ and running stock system still. Also I found I might be able to make a smaller canister work but think I'm gonna try it without and see what happens! Lol. If I get a code well then I got some figuring to do, cause from what I can find it "can't" be located in the cab so it can vent outside and mine is so big that I got no where out side the jeep to mount it since it has to be higher then the tank! I'm thinking this part of the build will be trial and error until if works with no codes! Really hating these new emission laws lol

My heep seems to pretty picky when it comes to codes but I'ma still try without and even of it throws a code I'ma take it for its test then clear it in the parking lot leave it running and keep my fingers crossed! Lol good thing I can see the jeep sitting an all fours in the next month so I'll have a good month to get it on good form to pass the e-test lol. Really should have done it on October before they changed the e-test lol

st put it in for the etest then pull it after it passes and leave it on a shelf till the next etest is needed.... i may be wrong but after deleting codes it can take up to 50 starts before it will pass....
If its a mechanical device i can fix it

Good idea but if I put it in for the e-test I'll still have to fab a spot for it and enclose it from the cab and at that point I'll just leave it in for the amout of work it will be to pull it out close the system remove whatever I fab up for a mount then put it all back again in a year!

In thinking about this no stop for the past 12 hours I think I have come up with a pretty good idea to mount it by the tank and enclose it from the cab!!!
