    Munnys Jeep

I'm back to building Jeeps after a hiatus with turbo classics.

After being on Kijiji every few hours for the last couple weeks, I picked up this YJ.

    Details:
    1991 Jeep YJ Islander
    4.0 I6
    5 Speed AX15
    D30/35
    Hard Top
    Full Doors

Living away from the GTA makes it incredibly difficult to jump on a good deal. This came up and I snagged it.
Being a little familiar with YJ and TJs- I felt comfortable picking up this project.

This is what I came up with after going through the interior.
Looks like a good start of a project to me.

    Bad:
    The leafs are beyond flat,
    It leaks oil,
    There is no muffler,
The windshield has a small crack,
The rear shackle mounts could benefit from repair,
    The door handles need adjustment,
    Ignition is temperamental, and
    It has square headlights.

    Good:
    It runs,
    It drives 2H, 4H and 4L,
    It stops,
    Body work has been started,
    It's complete, and
Its had the same owner for 17 years.

I have sourced a set of red half doors, and spice Bestop and uppers for the YJ.
The old Doors and Top are on Kijiji.

Looking forward to hitting Barron Canyon Trails again this year. Just not with my '12 JKUS.

Parts have been ordered, that's another post.

Today I escaped the rain and thought I'd remove the carpet and see the floors, nothing surprised me as I knew they had been patched. The previous owner had installed a "push to start" button. I'm not a huge fan, so I started following the wires and came to where they are spliced in the engine bay- I'll be very honest; I am not comfortable with electrical ever since a '93 Eagle Talon handed my ass to me- So I'll have a friend come over and sort me out. I also took out the trailer hitch harness and CB wires.

Am I the only one who dig these wheels?

I'll have to keep them to get the Jeep in the garage after the lift and tires go on.
I made an order from Quadratec and Rough Country.

Quadratec was almost out of the question because of shipping- but I found a company who deals with shipments from the USA to Canadian residents. They are based in Niagara Falls, and will hold your shipment in a secure warehouse and call you when your product is in- Just make the drive, pay the fee, and you save... a lot. A few-hundred-a-lot.

Here is the break down from Quadratec:

Safe-T Caps for rear shackle mounts
    Torx Tool Set
    Windshield Wipers
    Tune Up Kit
    Performance Accessories 1'' Shackles
    35'' Pro Comp MT2, and
    Pro Comp 51s

    And, from Rough Country:

    Spring Eye Bolts, and
    4'' Suspension Lift

Here are a few pictures from today.

I'll have to call my buddy with my grinder to clean up that cut.

    The hard top, spare tire carrier, bikini top and doors might be spoken for;
    Good stuff so far.

    Thanks for reading,
    Ian

    Yuk-
Okay, I've said it a thousand times I was going to keep this low-buck. But, I have a hard time with ugly work, and sometimes that is associated with low buck. So I'm comprising- Smittybilt front fenders will clean it up a little while still being low buck. New floors are coming after being unsatisfied with previous owners work.
New parts are coming in tomorrow

I'm looking at the pics on my BB and that frame is rotten around your shackle.

The problem with low buck is it usually turns into high buck. At least you have one less 0 than my purchase price. I ended up swapping frames and going ground up.

    Good luck with it.

Those safe-t-caps are nice pieces... But for the price I ended up back-halving then whole frame for less money... Just throwing it out there, it really wasn't that hard and all if the stock mounting locations were retained except the shock mounts were moved.
Check out the build in my sig.

I think I've read in JP that we Jeep guys- We lie to ourselves in every build. I don't think this is any different:
I went with a 35'' almost expecting the D35 to peace out. Which is fine, because I've been caught up on a thousand Ford 8.8 articles.
I kept gearing stock, and will suffer through it, because I will have an excuse later. Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one with the issue beside the recliner.

Here is what I've been smiling at.

Damn weather in Petawawa just reverted to January, so this will just have to wait a few more weeks.

    I need help- Bad.

I need to drop this tank, but have bad rust.

Check the fasteners. These are supposed to be 1/2 inch.

They are square-ish on the bottom, and oxidized and corroded on top.

    Help?

    Here is their URL:

    www.cbiusa.com

Annnnd, if anyone seems a viable solution to my skid plate bolts, please ad to this thread.

I think I will drill them out, and drill new holes right beside the existing bolts.

This is the last obstacle before the frame caps. The the fun can begin.

An easier an maybe cheaper option depending on the amount of work needed on the frame, talk to Blenheimboy, he brings in rust free frames from California for 650-700$. I bought one last yet and it was well worth it

Should I be hesitant on grinding them because of the gas tank?

Also, I have been in contact with him- Just not in the budget. The extreme-tight-cheap budget.
I plan to sell this YJ after the wheeling season. Speedway (Motorcycle dirt tracks) is calling my name)

The mods are 4'' RC, 1'' Shackle, and rims and tires. Rims and tires will go on the JKUS. (After rims)
Its a minimal investment. If I can't get what I paid for it, I'll part it.

    Thanks,
I'm drilling out these bolts tomorrow.
Its too cold here to lay on the pavement.

    What happened to spring?
