    94 Cadillac STS

So a friend bought a 94 Cadi "as is" from a dealership, Was told that it needed a new exhaust and other than that it should pass cert.

On his drive home, he had Catastrophic break failure, peddle went to the floor. and No e-break

I went out to take a quick look, fixed his e-break, so we then could limp it to the mechanics.

Shop said that some one put Oil instead of break fluid in break system, and the whole system would need to be replaced, costing WAY more than the car is worth

As this car was bought from a Dealer "As is" should he be able to get his money back? or is he basically stuck with a "parts car"

Ps. Any one want to buy a 94 Cadi STS with no break system for 600$ ?

How would As Is help him get his $$ back?

oil instead of Brake fluid, that's one i hadn't heard yet

Could be a blessing, most of those thing are likely electrical nightmares at that age

It was actually in really good condition, no rust..

Few electrical issues, Stereo Clock turns on, and then shuts off and no stereo, and rear window does not work. needs new rear bearings and a muffler, shame about the break system being Fried.

I had a friend put power steering fluid in his break system , and did the same thing, destroyed it.

    Run far and fast.

Scrap value would get him within a hundred or 2 of the $600.

Damn if it was a 1998-2004 STS then I would have bought it from ya even with the problem :P you should part the car out. You will get your money back that way and if te rear air shocks are the same as the ones on my 1999 STS then I'd take them from ya if they still hold air and are good since I blew one out a while ago lol

And I agree with craveneh, run far an fast and scrap the car. Depending on millage too, the head gaskets could be ready to go.

Ill do my best, its at my buddies mechanics, So will see if its going right to a scrapper or if he is going to try and part it out.
too bad of the year diff, he would give it all for 500$ , unless you want it to part out ahaha, he does not really have the space to store while it gets parted out.

There is a lemon law in Ontario in effect until 30 days after purchase regardless of "as is" sale geared towards a dealer. If you fought it yourself, it would cost you time, and you would recoup that in small claims court. You would have to hope the dealer would just give your money back after you spoke to them.

If you have unknowingly purchased a defective used vehicle from a Canadian auto dealer, you can contact your provincial or territorial consumer protection authorities. Whether the vehicle was originally purchased by the dealer in Canada or in the United States, consumers purchasing used vehicles in Canada from an auto dealer can check to see how they are protected by their province's or territory's consumer protection laws.

Omvic. Call em see what they say. They know all the laws and can advise you of where to go from here. They will also mediate the situation for you. I'd start with a call to the dealer though.
