    "wobble" when turning

Just over the past week I've noticed what feels like a 'wobble' in my front when making tight turns.

Rotated the tires and replaced the front brakes, had no effect. While I had the corners in the air I gave each tire a good wiggle to check for worn bearings/ball joints/TRE's but I think everything is fine. Ujoints appear good as well, at least no looseness or missing caps.

It almost feels like 4WD is engaged... but I'm 100% sure it's not.

Any suggestions before I get a buddy to hop in and make some turns while I watch the suspension from outside the Jeep?

Are you getting any noise? Bearings grinding?

When you say it seems like its in 4wd. Makes me think you have a bad hub.

If everything checks out ok as far as ball joints, tie rods ,drag link ,steering box bolts , control arm bushings, etc. Its most likely from the u-joints in the axle. How much of a tight turn are we talking here ?? Any JEEP I've had or been in will always do that if you crank the wheel to the stop. Do the front wheels tilt inward slighlty at the top ?? Bad bearings !!!. How about your toe in, is it close to where it should be ???

Hey. I'm having the exact same issue. I've been told it could be ball joints. U joints. Tie rod holes being hallowed out by the bolts causing loose feeling. The exact thing you're describing I have. Let us know

Not turning so tight that my tires rub the sway bar. I'll to a walk-beside tomorrow and see if I can see anything moving. No noise... I've had a dud U-Joint before a couple times and it's always been more of a knock than a wobble feeling.

    I'll report back tomorrow.

A bad u joint seizing up will make the steering feel funny when turning. Getting before it breaks the ears off.

Well after a walk-along I definitely have a worn end at the steering box end of the drag link. Probably reason enough to beef up all my steering with the Currie package.

Bearings seem fine, but I'm going to pop everything off this afternoon and check out the ujoints.

before you do that , jack up the front end and spin the tires and see if one has a shifted belt or a slight egg to it on the inner or outer tread may be a bent wheel as well but start there before you take it apart

Would have caught that with the tire rotation. It'll be in the air anyway. I'll double check.

The outer half of the drivers side u joint was seized solid.

With just a toolbox and a little f'n sledge I managed to swap it in an hour and a half.

CAA guy from the hammer was parked across the road for 20 after dropping off a Subaru next door. He was watching me hammer away for a while before asking if I remembered to remove the c-clips. Duh. As soon as he wandered up the driveway to supervise the last cap finally popped out. Click image for larger version.

Quick test drive and we'll see if that solved the problem.

Problem solved. Steering feels light as a feather now too. Didn't realize how seized it was.
