Rear center shoulder strap for 98 cherokee?

i need to install a rear center shoulder seatbelt strap in a '98 XJ for a child who is moving up to a booster seat.
can this be done? legally? if not, i'm SOL and will have to buy a 2005 or newer Grand, ...with independent front suspension, [yuck].
my heart is breaking at the thought of it, ...HELP!!!

it's probably not legal as you would have to remove a factory installed safty device (ie the existing lap belt) to do so. Day to day I'm sure no cop would ever notice, that said the real question is... how much do you trust your fab skills? if you screw up the mount and it breaks loose in an accident it's not going to end well, and count on the insurance company denying any injury claim. Probably not worth it, perhaps look at moving the booster to one of the sides that already has a sholder belt.

thanks for the [very wise] input. you're right, never put your treasures at risk. the mrs. has given her blessing to an '07 wrangler 4 door. problem solved.
