    Safety question

Can anyone answer for sure if a car can/will pass a safety if the ABS light is on?

one quarter turn before something breaks is a good torque spec.

Technically, no, it should not pass with the light on as that typically implies that the ABS is not functioning and switched itself off because of a problem.

Pull the cluster and remove the offending bulb would be the best bet. lol

Depends on the mechanic. They're not suppose to pass it because it is part of the braking system. Which is suppose to function fully for safety.
But some mechanics are old school and check everything else.
Do like CTD says. Worse that'll happen is they will notice the bulb missing and make you replace it. And then find out what is wrong with the ABS system. If this is a '96 or newer, you should be able to pull the code with a OBD II code reader.

So right from the MTO website. Posting here in case anyone searches for this in the future.

•Vehicles manufactured after July 1, 2011 with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) must have ABS inspected and operating as intended to pass the inspection. On January 1, 2014 all vehicles originally equipped with anti-lock brakes will required the ABS operating as intended to pass inspection

So my 2005 should be good to pass with the ABS light on.

We have recently been advised that the updated Safety Standards book, which will include new ABS requirements, has been delayed. We & most others are still using the old book, which does not require ABS to be functional.
