    Weekend Insurance

Not that I've heard of. I looked into it and there is the ability to park the vehicle (fire and theft coverage) but they want you on for 30
    Days at a time

Some company's still do occasional use ins but only when all primary drivers in the house have their own vehicle.

I take the insurance off vehicles as I use them multiple times a year but I think its for a min of 30 days at a time. I'd have to check with my agent which happens to be a member on here.

    Im confused by the question.

So he has insurance on his car, and his son doesnt live with him. Maybe the son is away at school or something?
If this is the case, and the driver is under 25 and listed on a car that has full coverage on it he may be rated "away at school"
With the company I work for we do this for clients whos kids dont live at home while going to school, and come home on the occasional weekend or holidays.
However, once the summer comes, and the kids are home full time for the few months, they are moved to occasional driver status and we start charging the premiums again.

If you friend is refering to just adding a car to his policy for the weekend, if he had it on comp only, his agent, broker must not mind doing all the work thats involved with flipping it on and off. ( it is a little more then clicking a button )

If he doesnt have insurance, and says he purchased a weekend policy, it may be done through facility association, they can do short term policies, but most companies want 6 month or 12 month contracts.

With the little information you have given, i cant really figure out what you mean by " weekend insurance"

    Re: Weekend Insurance

Perhaps ask him who he's with. Then call them and ask about a policy like that for you... See what they say.

All auto policy in ontario are the same.

If you google OAP1 that is the standard auto policy in the province that all insurers have to sell. We can have differnet underwriting guidelines, and risk selection rules.

Your question the first time is a totally different question then the one you just asked. Take away the kid coming home from university part and its a different scenario. Facility Assoc. does offer shorter terms of insurance, but not just " weekend" insurance.

NOW... he may have some sort of antique or "club use " insurance. We offer that as well for certian vehicles ( age requirments, lmited use etc. ) It designed for not driving to work, and under 3250kms per year of use. So he may well be refering to that. And those rates are really low, depending on the declared value of the vehicle. Just so you know alot of insurers offer this kind of coverage. Silverwheels, Hagarty, Echelon ( in some markets ) all have these coverages as well as most of the larger insurers. We use OPCF19 for the declared value.

For more information into the OAP1... google it, its available on FSCO website. I have posted it here in the past

Out of curiosity, what kind of car is it he is refering too?

I think that covers the question in both ways now, with the kid coming home and not being charged to drive his car, and if he has it just insured for " weekend use "
