    Gas can on roof?

I'm planning a road trip and I was planning on carrying spare fuel in approved containers secured in my roof basket. The friend going with me mention that it could be a serious problem with insurance. I'll be calling my actual broker when I next get the chance, but have you heard of anything like this before? Is he paranoid or is this standard? I see Jeeps with gas cans on the outside all the time.

    Thanks!
But our trip was different. It was to be a classic affirmation of everything right and true in the national character. A gross physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of life in this country. But only for those with true grit.

And we are chock full of that, man!

    Intersting question.

I searched the OAP1 this morning to see if I could find anything that talks about this.
I couldnt find anything in the document. However, I think this may be a better suited question for the SAVE Officer forum, as there may be same rules and regulations surrounding transporting fuel.

From a personal stand point, if someone came to my office for thier vehicle inspection and had gas cans strapped to the roof, I would most definatly ask some questions in regards to the purpose, age and condition of the cans, and mounting hardware. After all my job is to look for things that may create a risk and minimize it. However, there is nothing in the OAP1 that says you cant have a can of gas in your vehicle, or strapped to the outside. Now the HTA, or MTO rules could be completly different and I will leave that one up to the SAVE officer to answer if he chooses too.

Have fun on your road trip!

i know in the pass, my father-in-law would strap 4 jerry cans to his deck of his truck and travel from Canada to the States and never asked by either police or boarder potrol about it. Not saying its right but it was in plain view with just a ratchet strap holding them in place.....
Following this thread, very good question...
