    hard on gas

I get almost 500 km s to a tank of fuel. I have a 4 inch lift and 33 s. With 373 s. 5 spd. Pending on the weather I raise and drop my air pressure. When it gets warmer I run 27 psi. And in the cold I go up to 33.

    Re: hard on gas

Got myself a dd. Total cost including insurance the Mazda is free in 2 years with the number of km I do. A Honda would pay off sooner but I needed a hatchback I could fit inside. It's worth crunching the numbers on. Now my jeep gets used for what I built it for rather then being used up on the road.

but seriously....it's a very very very old poor engine design and a three speed....just the way it is.

could you imagine taking a jeep wheeling with an 8 speed auto? you would have the clutches burned out of 1st and 2nd gear on your first trip out. not to mention as soon as you put 35's on the thing you will never use 6th 7th or 8th gear without doing axle ratio's.

i personally hate the jump by manufacturers to these 7, 8 or 10 speed automatics to lower there fuel economy. as soon as you are driving into a head wind or aren't going downhill/coasting, you loose those top gears that gain you so much efficiency because the overdrive ratios are way too high.

as for the original post it was very shortsighted of jeep to still be using a 3 speed auto in a 2001 as there is no overdrive ratio and is more of an 80's and early 90's design when fuel was under 50 c/liter. i guess i needed to vent a little but i do feel better now!

i stand corrected but i think this offers even more validity to my remark towards burning out clutches if you go wheeling in one. i just think it would forever be shifting through 1-2-3 and back down and it wouldn't hold up worth a damn. now if they were to build one similar to how they achieve the different gear ratios in a heavy diesel application like a meritor 13 or 18 speed auto-shift they would be much more reliable. i guess time will tell how they hold up as these new 8 spd auto's are pretty new to the market yet.

Sorry, are you suggesting a 13-speed automated manual would be wheelable?
But our trip was different. It was to be a classic affirmation of everything right and true in the national character. A gross physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of life in this country. But only for those with true grit.

And we are chock full of that, man!

I can limit it to any of the eight gears, so I can hold it in gear longer to prevent shifting.....not that I'm going to be wheeling my 3 week old truck any time soon LOL

I don't mean to hijack, but are you having any vibrations in eco mode?
I also just traded in an 09 for a 14 but the MDS seems a lot more active in the 14.
Some on the Ram forums are also frustrated with this issue and it may possibly be an issue with the torque converter. I love it otherwise.....

You guys sure make me feel better about the H2 I bought.

I think it gets better mileage than your jeeps. I know my cj gets terrible mileage with a 360 in it.

    hard on gas

Jeeps are just bad on gas and it doesn't help that it's winter right now.

In the summer I get about as 10-13L/100km on my '13 jk manual. But as soon as it drops below 5 degrees Celsius, fuel economy tanks... Between 17-19L/100km. I have friends with full sized pickup trucks that get way better fuel economy. There's a few things going against fuel economy right now:

    - winter blend gas
    - colder temps = stiff drivetrain, we have and extra diff and gearbox to push compared to most vehicles out there. Colder air = heavier air; more wind resistance.
    - engine takes longer to warm up, although I find that the 4.0 warms up pretty quick. This issue is further compounded if most of your trips are short.

I get only 250 km per tank

I can understand why you would have issues, farts are typically counter productive to the sex life.

    UPDATE FYI.....
Sadly, my Jeep days seem to be done. But, I would like to praise Chrysler Group for a job well done on the latest Ram!
My 2014 Ram is great!!! 305Hp on a 3.6L Pentastar with 8spd trans... I'm getting 9.7L/100km...in a full size 4x4 quad cab!!!! That's better than some cars I've had...
The ride is amazing, inside the cab is dead silent on the highway, 7000lb towing cap, & I love it!
    IMHO

    Keep it rubber down folks!
