    2011 caravan

i have a 2011 dodge caravan, it has the 3.6L
in the middle of oil filter housing there's a spring and at the end of that spring is a plastic piece , kinda looks like a plunger.
well i broke that plastice piece,

    do i need that piece?
    and what does it do?

i cant just buy that plastic piece, i need to buy the hole filter housing that is $300
to me it looks like that plastic piece is to line up the filter for install. but really not sure.

Taking a guess here, but that could be your oil pressure bypass. Yes, you'll need it.
