Opinions on an old bobber style bike i can kill myself on

Looking at getting something cheap to poke away at and putter around on once and a while next year.

Seems to be some decent prices out there but i don't know shit.

Are any of the 70's or 80's make's easier to replace parts or more reliable then others?

Just a few ideas of what caught my eye.

The yamaha xs650s, honda cb's and harley sportsters from the 70s and early 80s will all suit you well. They have great aftermarket support and there are lots of online resources for doing damn near anything you want to them. I recently finished a 75 sportster and found it a fun and rewarding experience. Keep patient and search around for the right starting point (just like the jeeps, look for rust and frame issues, everything else is fairly easy to figure out)

I would stay away from the Honda Magna's. I had an 84 or 85 and they use same engine as the Interceptor. Problem being thst the Interceptor got a recall to fix an issue with the pump not supplying the top end with enough oil. Guess what? That's what happened to my Magna and stalled out coming up to every stop sign with the "oil" light flickering.
Bikes are dirt cheap right now, my brother in law just picked up a 2004 Yamaha(1100cc) with tons of extra accessories for $2000 certified. A cruiser so it's not the bobber you are looking for but prices are definitely right with all the bike accidents going on.

IMO, anything "imported" is more a cafe than a bobber

take a look at the shadow vlx 600. look up "blue collar bobbers" as well. awesome kits for the vlx. they're nice because the vlx 600 is a softail style suspension, easily lowered, or made rigid.
