    Vegetable Oil/Acetone as penetrating oil

Posting this in fab forum because it is more shop related tech than vehicle related tech.

Found an interesting article on cost/performance of WD-40 vs DIY mixes, thought it may be of interest to others. The article includes test results to backup the theory/practice. I did a quick bit of googling to check the legitimacy of the article background and the individuals and organizations named seem totally legit.

    A link to the article.

A link to a more detailed report of their testing.

ATF and kerosene is another I've heard from the veteran car guys.

edit: Just saw they used ATF too but the cost is high, but not if you use used AFT!

Interesting read. The 2 best penetrating fluids i have used are Aerokroil from Kano labs and Mouse milk from World wide Filter. They are both excellent. Can't remember what each costs but they are well worth it. I have never broken /stripped a fastener when using either of them. They are safe on painted surfaces unlike the acetone/atf mixture.
