new Jeep, remote start locks on A/C?

My 013 JKU Sahara has remote start, took me about 9 months to figure out that the A/C is getting automatically turned on, and then I am unable to shut it off, after using the remote. Had terrible gas mileage til now. Now I don't use the remote and get 15-20% better mileage. But I would like to warm her up if possible. I am also suspicious now of how easily the dealer threw in the free remote start option.

I read that this is a legitimate problem from searching other forums. There is no current fix. Jeep engineers supposedly are aware, but no fix offered yet. I did read a guy who said leave the fan on 1st tick after shut dn, so next remote start this will over-ride the jeep's programming that u NEED A/C, even in the winter. But this has been hit & miss too. U also have to shut dn for 10 mins & then just use your key to get out of this mess. It's a constant irritating experiment going on. Other sites say everyone needs to complain to Jeep more to get it fixed. Supposedly a flash won't fix it. And if Jeep is aware of this, why they don't help one of the worst mileage vehicles/issue is disturbing. I expected better.

I just wanted to share all the info I have gathered. I want the mileage, but I would also like the remote function. Anybody else aware of this, or a fix?

It comes on automatically because it should be on to defrost the windshield. In all the ones I've seen including our bosses SRT8 you just turn it off once you get in and have the key in the ignition by pressing the ac button or changing the vent function. Also if you always let your Jeep warm up that use extra gas as well so just using the remote start will require more gas in general.

Button won't work after you use the remote start, even little green light goes off, but I still have AC blowin. Tried multiple ways to get it to shut off. It was hard to notice, but when I drove to FLorida, there was no doubt. Once you use the remote, you are stuck with AC. In winter you have heat on, AC is also running, and crap mileage. If you remote start the Jp with just the fan set to 2nd tick mark, most times AC does not come on automatically, but still sometimes. Crazy! SO I have to remember to set the fan tick every shut down.

I read it was integrated to have the luxury of a cool Jeep when you jump in, in the summer. Case of car makers making decisions for us again, because we aren't smart enough to decide. Now this Frankenstein won't shut off!

Other forums documented this as a legit problem.

Drivin home from FLorida, AC ran whole tank, I tried everything to shut it off.
I drive home from work with windows wide open, vent on, and all AC.
So I stopped using remote until I get a fix.

I will have to find a way to disconnect a fuse or something for the winter.
only way to stop it right now.

You could put a switch in the power going to the ac pully. That's how I run my york. Should just be a 12v power source.

Or just take it to the dealer get then to put an aftermarket autostart in. Since the factory one doesn't work

The moment you snip that wire they will void your warranty so fast it will make your head spin... Even if it's a known problem they will blame your switch. Don't do it yet.

    thanks for replies guys.
No cutting, I hope to find something easier like a fuse I can pull.
I'm hoping someone may have figured out a fix or work around.
I keep hearing about an "auto temperature control" feature.
How do I know if I have this, I have no button or selector of the sort?
THe only time I have seen this is as a "digital temp set and forget it" feature.

If the there is an "Auto" setting on your blower motor control knob, you have auto temperature control.
And if its that big of a deal you could always pull the ac compressor fuse until there is a fix for your issue

new Jeep, remote start locks on A/C?

This must be a 2013 issue - I have a 2012 with factory remote start and don't have this issue.

I'm also surprised to hear it's causing 15-20% hit to your mileage - modern AC systems are pretty efficient. A consumer reports test showed it is a 1 mpg impact.

I only ever remote start warmup for 1 min, 2 tops.
When I first got it, I used remote constantly, was getting L/100km readings of 16's.
Now after 20k, and aware, getting 12-13's. Huge difference.

Unplugging AC pump sounds best. Anyone foresee any damage this could cause?
