    Painting my rims?

Spending my money on other upgrades right now and really don't want to worry much about the rims… But I hate those silver stock 2012 rims and i
I'd at least like to paint them black. Any suggestions on a product to paint them with? Anybody done this and had them look halfway decent?

I painted a ratty pair of Moab wheels a few days ago for a trailer I'm building and they turned out pretty good. Each one took about a half hr. of preparation, (cleaning, sanding and wipe down with acetone and a tack rag). I used Duplicolor wheel paint from CTC (primer, graphite silver & clear coat). I'm having computer problems now and will post some pics in a few days.

I'm about to do the exact same thing on a set I picked up yesterday for my wj. Plasti dip is temporary. After some research, I'm going to use bed liner. I'll probably paint them this weekend.

Any recommendations on painting rims before or after having tires mounted?

I painted mine before they were mounted. When the tire shop installed them there was no damage, scratching, marking, etc. The paint survived just fine.

As mentioned in post #2 I used Duplicolor spray bombs from CTC on the wheels for my trailer.

I dipped my grill last year, it turned out great. Planning on dipping my wheels soon to.

Wow, the rim looks awesome. The aluminum has oxidized under the clear coat on my rims, that's why I was thinking of using bed liner. After seeing that, I might just prime and paint with rim paint. We'll see what happens after I start cleaning mine up. If the clear peels off and there's a lot of pitting, I might still use bed liner.

How did you prep before the primer? Light sanding, wire wheel, etc???

Grill, mirrors, handles, emblems, bezel. I am surprized that it held up over the winter. Truck was outside and washes once a week at a coin wash ith the scrub brush. I do have some chips in the grill. But paint would chip also. It was my first time applying it and I think when I redo the grill this time I will add another 3-4 coats to the face of the grill and mirrors.

big_ang - If your comment is about my post #9 it was pretty straight forward. I cleaned up the rim area pitting with a wire wheel on a 4" angle grinder. Beyond that it was simple hand sanding for the most part although I did finish the spokes with a palm sander. I can't recall the specific sand paper grits but if you don't go too coarse you'll be fine. As mentioned I just used Duplicolor wheel paint spray bombs from Canadian Tire.
