    Great YJ Find!

It begins the other day, I saw an ad on kijiji while in class of a hardtop listed for free. Ad said something like "Good condition YJ hard top, scraping jeep come pick it up out of my yard." There were no photos so didn't know what to expect, I messaged the guy and it he was available. It took us 2 and a half hours of a drive because of shitty traffic, but we got there in pitch dark and raining. The guy thought we ditched the offer until we pulled up, the YJ was sitting there in his backyard. Behind that was the black hardtop sitting on the ground, looked good and is good. We picked it up and put it on our trailer. My Dad got talking to the guy about the yj and why he was scrapping it. It looked really good in the rain, like it was brand new or something. Remember, everything looks good in the rain and especially at night. He was going to get it scrapped so my Dad offered him $300 and it was a deal. So we took our international with my uncle and drove there, the traffic was better and got there in less then an hour. The YJ still looked good for what we were paying but it doesn't run, and yes we knew it didn't run. If you watch the video of us loading it you can see, the YJ came with a tan hardtop, brand new carburetor, bike carrier, 3 bikini tops, and maybe soft doors. Didn't check the inside since it was full of stuff. What was there was obviously worth more then what we paid. Everything was dirty so if I go and get it washed I will then post pictures. The guy has driven this Jeep every where, every Province and Territory except the Yukon, he has driven it in the Arctic too and camped out with 3 of his budy's there. It has a lot of potential, the frame is rotted but the body looks good. Maybe some floor fix though.

No photos atm just a video of us loading it.

Anyone know what kind of rims those are, my uncle were thinking they were from a limited edition Jeep Wagoner or Cherokee?

awesome score... as for a key, worse case, buy a new to you steering column and switch it out. depending where you are, some people have spare columns that you may borrow until you figure things out.
as for the rims they are a common for both wranglers and Cherokees
a learning experience is one of those things that says, you know that thing you just did...don't do that again.

Likely not the case as they use a separate ignition/door key like the old GM's. That being said it is very easy to re-code the tumblers in the early yj's for whatever GM "round" key you have.

Called the dealer other day, said they could do it. Went and couldn't find the key code or whatever, going to call Chrysler and see if they have the key code. Going in today to see if he has got a key for me or not, and drop off a Grand Cherokee that's making weird noises.

The frame is in great condition. Has one patch done to rear frame, everything else mint. It doesn't have both axel's with it as well.

Ya They can Code a Lock cylinder to match your key but on anything that was NOT Chrysler meaning anything 1991 and older they do not have codes attached to VIN's
like they do if you had a 1991+ because Jeep used GM lock cylinders for everything pre Chrysler...

Understood. Got the beauty running today, put some break fluid in it, oil, and started right up. Sitting for 5 years and old gas surprised it started! Might check it out more tomorrow, put the new carb on it, check air filter, and wiring.

Today I started cleaning out the YJ, there was $2 in Canadian Tire money, gum packet with half gum still there, ripped tan soft window for rear, window, some night club ad, bbq, tire, 2 backseats, black soft top in pretty good condition, 2 charcoal gray soft doors which are good condition for half doors or whatever, and manual. No keys though, so we started to remove the steering wheel and get the ignition cylinder out.

I went out Dirt Biking with a friend in the ganaraska and while I was gone my Uncle's & Dad got the Jeep Started up after adding brake fluid and removing ignition. Didn't add or remove any gas that was in there, started right up with the gas that has been sitting there for 5 years.
