    Differentials- Grand vs Std. Cherokee

I've got a '93 Grand Cherokee, I think it's got a Dana 35 in the rear (please correct me if I'm wrong) Does anyone know if the regular late 80's Cherokee's hadthe same axle/gearset? I am researching a ring and pinion swap from an older Chreokee into my '93 Grand.

    TIA..

Probably same axle would be careful on gear set though many different ratio's availible.

why swap an older R&P into your grand?

they should be the same axles, although some had the option dana44 rear-end, which is different from a normal D44, I believe...

    You've got the dana 35 WITH c-clips.

The aluminum dana 44 wasn't offered in grands until later on.

Many grands came with 3.73 gears so be sure you're getting the right gearset. Even if you do swap in used gears they'll still have to be setup properly in your axle housing so in the end it may be more worth while to buy new gears....with the good exchange new gearsets can be found for about $175 or sometimes less

    Thanks for the replies

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a D35? If I understand you correctly, a Std Cherokee differential will not bolt into a Grand? But the older gears will bolt on the newer diff? I was told by my mechanic that a set of used gears in good shape with the carrier and gear still attached would go in a lot cheaper than setting up new gears from scratch (in this case $175.00) All the guys I've talked to in my area have reffered me to the dealer when it comes to gear swaps except this one guy. I'd like to keep things as cheap as possible due to the truck have 332+K on it, and an un-certain future...

Thanks again for all the input
