Wow, that sucks... I honestly hope they DON'T give it back the owner, I know I wouldn't want it back... Should've done the guy a favour and lit it up in flames.

even if the owner was piss drunk and did this to his own jeep as built as this, you would think he would just report it as stolen and let the insurance company sort it out.
i really don't think anyone with a rig like this would do that to themselves, drunk or not, period.
    i say STOLEN!!

maybe it was a breakdown, and the owner left it there.
it would suck if you return to your vehicle only to find it in this condition.
he probably just didn't know yet.
what would you do?, i'd still report it stolen.

I would never even think about attempting that.

I would love to buy the thing from the owner. As all the parts that are broken can be replaced with stronger and better aftermarket goodies. Sounds like fun

Jeeps are pretty high on the Most Stolen Vehicle list, so i'd assume they're pretty easy to steal.
Looks like someone did that and went for one hell of a ride.

if thats the case its truely a shame. I hope everything works out for the owner.

older jeeps might be easy to steal- but my ZJ- crap- it sure isn't! i lost my keys a couple weeks ago and called caa- they sent a locksmith who was able to start it with some crazy blank key (but the truck had not been locked when he was called and did his thing). i drove it home with this special key in the ignition and then thought i was ok when i got home cause i had another copy of the master at home. well that was all fine until i locked the doors- then when i tried to unlock it the next day the alarm (factory) started going off (cause i'd lost the remote) i tried to start it and it would start but would cut out after 5 seconds- finally had to pull the fuse for the horn and call CAA again to get it towed to chrysler to get a new remote and have it programmed! thus it sure seems it wouldn' be easy for a thief to get past this system was a huge pain in my ass!

^^ BY JEEPS he means YJs/TJs

Its very easy to steal all YJ's and early generationd TJ's

Simply because they have no alarms due to there being no doors to arm. Early Generation TJ's didnt come with programmed keys either, therefore simply rip open the cluster and start her up.

Also, your ZJ alarm would have turned off, had you closed the door, and used the master key to lock the doors on the drivers side door. I have had this happen to me in a rental ZJ, that had no fob.
