    rack and pinion

i just brought my DD to the dealership (its a Saturn and they give free car washes with any service) but they just called me and said that the rack and pinion are shot and leaking all over the place. I know i noticed some crap on the driveway when i drove away the other day but I just figured that it was from the YJ. Anyway, they want like $900 that I dont have. Soooooooooooooo, anybody know of a cheaper place or how to take care of this? I try to take care of as much as I can on the Jeep but I know Jack S**T about the Saturn.
Im willing to try it though..
Also they said I would need an allignment, is this true?

Also, i did notice that something sounded/ felt a little loose when you hit a bump. Hopefully related?

    Thanks

How about the year make and model?
I was trying to see if I could price a remanufactured rack from a jobber rather than a new rack at the dealer....

You're in Dundas? Go see Carl or Andrew at Canadian Tire on Cootes Dr. Tell 'em Eric from Toyota sent you. I think labour for a rack is about 3 hours, plus an alignment. If you're supplying the rack at $170, their rate is around $80/hr your looking around $500 installed. Yes, you must have it aligned after replacing the rack.

Thanks man. I'll prolly head in tonight.

Quick question though. If it is just leaking, what is the worst that could happen if I decide to wait for another paycheque? Could I just put more p/s fluid in for now?
