    Looking For opinions.

    I have an 86 CJ-7 350chevy, T-5 Trans, Dana 300 Transfercase, stock diffs. SOA and a 1" Body lift.

    Two questions:

    1) 33's or 35's? (the prices aren't much different)

    2) Lockers or welded? Front or rear

my '86 cj is getting a front d44 from blazer and a welded 14 bolt SOA with yj springs .. cause thats what i have laying around !! i bust the stock amc20 already with 33's on the street .. havent decided on the powertrain yet; maybe a turbo buick v6/700r4 or a stroked xj 4 liter/adub, probably the latter

at the risk of flaming; i wouldnt weld the rear if it's gonna be a street driven rig, unless it's a purely fair weather toy, even though a welded rear end is way more predictable than a locker .. and i definitely wouldn't weld the front unless you like fixing more than driving
does not play well with others

pure stock amc 20 suck. they will live with 33" if you do a one piece shaft upgrade and the 30 will be okay with tight hub bolts with locktight and new spicer life u-joints. Oh, leave em open if you want any life out of them behind a V8 with a manual.

I destroyed two AMC 20 and gave up on any idea of stock drivetrain after the first dana 30 $#!+ the bed.

you should replace that amc 20 as chrisbuilt said with my d44 scout rear (matching bolt pattern, perfect cj width) with welded rear diff and finish the rear disc conversion

you should then gear it low, grab some alloys, and run 35's all day.

are they 2 piece shafts? if so, get the 1 piecers and weld it up, it's not a bad diff, just the 2 piece axles are shit.

Thanks Guys. I use to have 33's with the i-6 and still got 5th on flat roads. The SBC had no problem with the 33's and it tore the shit out of the 31's I had on after.
