i was thinking the cv myself as well but wanted to other opinions on it...

i dunno if it be the bearing as usually they have a sign before they go they start to hum, and there aint no hum or anything just a grind almost like a stone is rattle around or something in there....

not sure if it applies to that car, but strut bearings can make a grinding noise.

in my cavalier the rubber isolator in the coil spring cup is worn or misplaced so when i hit a bump or turn a certain way it makes this shitty metal on metal on sand and crap noise. I sprayed oil into there and it stopped.

Take the wheel off and see if there is any visible scratches or areas that have had something grinding on it. Check to make sure everything is tight and greased. If everything looks good my guess is the CV joint, maybe a ball joint or something in the hub assembly. Good luck

ya took off the tire and checked her out and everything seems to be in ok order.... and the cv shaft i thought maybe it would have play if it is done, and will it aint got no play maybe a wee bit but thats normal.....

was gonna take off my caliper and see if there was maybe a stone in there or something but the damn bolts are on so friggin tight i couldnt get enough leverage on them with the breaker bar since it in my drive way LOL...

this is the most stupidist dumbist comment i have ever heard , how could you with a good conscience tell someone that , this is rediculous and insulting and foolish and actually pisses me off . how could you tell someone the muffler bearing is gone on the front of the car . this makes me sick . the muffler bearing is clearly at the rear of the vehicle ..

UM a strut is a strut because it supports the COIL SPRING.

PS. if the spring is not supported in part by the body of the strut, the strut is a shock.

    Ill bet its the cv
they usually start to go when your noticing the car turning and its a grind/clunk, my mazda did it and my 95 avenger did it, replaced cv and fixed the problem, they are not cheap to replace if you wont tackle it yourself but Im willing to bet its the cv

yeah, id say for sure it's the cv joint.
grab one from a wrecker with low km's or spend $$ on a new one. they're not cheap.

waggy, i thought they just put the body on backward to change these to front wheel drive. hmmph, my bad.

    Hahaha!

I started reading this, thought "Who the F--- is this guy?... " then kept reading.
    Nice.

I'm leaning towards bearing if the CV isn't torn. I've seen all of 1 CV joint go internally (bearing race cracked) without the boot being split first in 10 years of wrenching for a living. But, I'd try a wrecker axle first (keeping yours as a spare), and if it don't work you're not out much for the test.
