well I have bent front axle

front axle for my 88 xj? -I'm having bad tire wear on left side so I took it in to the shop and the guy said I have 2 ball joints and 1 u joint that needs replacing and he said the axle is bent and would need offset ball joint so just get another complete axle a better one dana 44 or something, where do I look? I have asked around found afew axles one from amc wagoneer older one and ford dana 44 from 79 bonco but they would need alot of work make them fit in . I have rear axle already 8.8 ford w/3.55 gears going to be installed soon so might as well do front one too.

Not much help, but swapping any non-OEM axle in is going to require fab work. Perhaps nabbing another D30 for time being? Then you can fab a replacement at your leisure.

those older 44's you mention are passeger side drop (i believe) you jeep is driver side drop... it can be done but alot of fabbing and you need a new t-case. look for a something with a drivers drop... save you a world of headaches and moula

80-91 wagonneers are driver's drop (eariler are pass. drop)

early bronco 44's are also driver's drop

these threads are for Yj's, which are fairly easy swaps because they have leaf springs. XJ front requires more fabbing due to coils (still doable obviously).

reverage on here bought a sweet prefab d44 truss that has all the mounts integrated, check his thread.

Sounds more like a mechanic that knows how much these ball joints suck to change. Get a second opinion...

I'd like to know how he determined the axle was bent. If it was bent enough to be obvious you'd be having more problems than ball joints.

As stated, get a second opinion, me thinks they saw you coming.
