I would assume the swing down is to make for easier unloading of the spare.

that irok on a steel rim weighs a good 100#

Being the scrawny fawker Curt is he needs all the help he can get
the swing down saves him having to lift the tire to chest height...

the tow points are functional...it's a weird angled pic, but they hang lower than the swing out bar.

I will say this...the swing down hinge is not 'just for a pic' it works...it's a clever design and I'll let curt explain it to ya

i dig it, especially the pointy thingy, i firmly belive that jeeps that are actually wheeled should have pointy thingys so when we run into mall crawlers at walmart it leaves a lasting impression!

    good job man

Thanks guys. I'll put up more pics after the weekend. Theres 3 big pins and 4 small pins. All the drop hinges are sleeved with plug welds on one side. The big swing out hinge is a 1" solid bar with sleeves. It's double sheer with the top part removable via 3 bolts. No bearings. Still need to drill out a few grease nipple holes but that can wait till after RK. The thing took too long. LOL. So now i'm left with tonight to button up a bunch of other more important sh!t for the weekend. I need to get my priorities straight. LOL

I big thanks to Phil (AXMN_ZJ). All this used to be his homemade bed frame. I even bent up a nice front stinger buddy.

who cares...how much action did the bed see lol

    I see it this way......

If the bed saw lots of action...the metal is now weak and stressed......

If the bed saw no action.....the metal is strong and the carrier will last years lol

    jk nice work dude....neat idea

You'll know anyways Curt....if your on the trail and it just falls apart........the bed had action........if it last you 5-10 years of solid trail abuse, well the bed was used for just sleeping

Looks pretty good, I like the simplicity of your design. I've got a similar concept still on the "drawing board" & hope to finalize the design and start building sometime this year.
