88 YJ transformed to 88 Rock Crawler

I have been on Jeep kings for a long time. I love this site...
I decided to post my build up here as there is such a huge range of expertise on here from all over.

I started my build this March - 2008. My target is to have it ready for spring 2009.

Starting condition of the YJ wasn't too bad. Very minimal rust on frame, engine was not operating and it had an SOA partially completed. It came with a stock 4.2L Dana 30/35 and little red wagon wheels as my friend Matt calls the 29" tires lol.

I spent a lot of these last few months acquiring parts and selling parts to help fund this project.

So the image below is from the first week i obtained the jeep.

I removed the old 4.2L and seperated the body and frame.

Engine Block has been stripped down, all parts removed labeled etc... Ready to go to the machine shop. This block was rebuilt under 20,000km's but I wanted to make sure it was 100%.

Got the Engine back from the machine shop... Bore was .30 over and machinist said that there had to be less than 20,000 km's. So good news there. I had her boiled, heads shaved new cam bearings etc...

Now the fun begins.... Re assembly of the engine. Got my new parts. Edelbrock cam lifters and timing chain to match the edelbrock intake and carb. Thank god for freinds who worked in the engine building industry. Made for a fun day with breaks to watch extreme 4x4 lol.

Okay so now we are almost caught up to where i am actually at.
Yesturday i picked up the transmission AMC - TF727. I had to go to Parry Sound to pick it up so it made for a long day. (Thanks Bruces) for the transmission.

I am trying to keep as much Jeep in this as i can. Obviously the axles and tubing won't be but everything else will lol.

Okay so today i painted up the block and heads. It is going to be brushed metal, aluminum and black with a bit of bright blue. I am waiting on a few parts that i need (timing cover, Valve Covers and fuel pump). The timing cover was really messed up on the engine so i need to replace it. Once i have it then i will be ready to re install into the YJ Frame and fire this sexy bitch up hehe.

This is my list of things i still need:

    - Dana 300
    - Dana 60 / 14 Bolt
    - Water pump
    - Fuel Pump
    - Tires
    - Rims
    - 140 feet of cage
    - Aftermarket Guages

I am soo glad my wife is supportive.

I would if i had the funds for it, just soo much to do this year just to get it movable. I will get it all together and if all goes well then maybe next year i will have some money to switch it over. I got the carb and intake for free so i can not complain....

ha, well you can tell her I was waving at the hottie driving the Jeep if it will help.

my wife has lived in the Hampton area most of her life, and when I told her I was dropping that spare tire off at your place for John she said the same thing.
"How can you already know people up here? Why is it you know someone everywhere you go?"

I will be un employed (hopefully for a short time) when I move up, so I may swing by to say hello and see whats going on.

So today i pruchased my tires and rims - (Thanks to David!!! thanks Dave!)
I purchased these 39.5 iroks and bead locked rims.

I also ordered all the small things i need to get my engine finished and running.

    - AMC 360 Flexplate for tf727 transmission
    - Plugs, Thermostate
    - Autometer phantom guages (oil and tempature + sensors)
    - Timing cover for the amc 360
    - Carter fuel pump
The rest of the engine parts were new when i got the engine (coil - distributor etc.)

Tomorrow i am welding in the engine mount kit i got from Advanced Adapters.
