    Custom Bumpers

I have spent a little time doing some design work for the bush bar for my YJ. Here is the concept I have come up with. Lemme know if you see anything that I may need to change.

The brownish colour is what I am anticipating the bar will look like. The black and the two lights on the bumper are existing. The CAD work is to scale and the bumper is accurate, however, the jeep is a close representation of the front end of the YJ.

the side profile rawks, but personally i would raise the outer radius'd corners up and make it less geometrical, would give it a real mean look.

Maybe raise the center bar a bit so that the lights don't block more airflow into the rad, otherwise it looks great.

With being about 14" from the front of the bumper, 20" of so from the rad opening, the eddie currents created from the lights should draw more air into this area. At least that how the engineers at work explained it.

I have concern with raising these bars too much as I don't want to interfere with the lights... But am in complete agreement. I have changed the model to incease the radius in these corners and it looks better but its not exactly what I want as of yet. Gonna have to play with it a little more. I will look at this when I start doing the tube bending.

The YJ rendering I created using Unigraphics and a tape measure. I plan on creating the whole jeep as I make upgrades, but this is all in time.

The only other thing I have been thinking about is the whole Stinger application I obviously need to be higher but not certain I know how I want it to end up.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
More CAD to follow. then hopefully some build pics.

If you are going to make this a stinger I would design it to be just out of your view across the front line of the hood, at the angle you are working with that should give you all the stinger you need.

Just my .02, you have a really nice design going there for sure.

    changes

Made some changes to the cad work... increased the size of the radius in the corners, Also added the hoop above the lights to add protection for the lights and to act as a possible stinger.

I'm not 100% on the hoop, I think it may be too tall, but i don't want to go further forward. any suggestions or feedback.

Personally the first one looks better. If you need protection for the upper lights move them in a bit. I have flirted with the idea of moving my lights forward in a similar location to your upper lights by putting them on a removable mount with electrical strut and spring nuts. That way If I need to persuade some trail obstacles out of the way they can be removed with no risk of damage.

I like the first one better, looks bad ass though.
One thought, the size of the tube in the top view looks to be the width of the top of the bumper, maybe narrow it up a bit to get a nice looking weld in there. Unless you are going to grind down the weld.

Make sure the bumper is mounted really well or the whole damn thing will vibrate and shake every time you hit a bump. I had to brace my bumper to stop the vibs and make sure the stinger actually did its job instead of just breaking the bumper off.
